Main habitat types include agricultural land(36%) and forests along with olive groves,orchards,heathlands(54%). Montaneous landscapes,small inland plateaus(with the exception of Spain) and rocky coasts are the main geological characteristics along with a high number  of islands.
With regards to the climate,hot and dry summers and mild winters are typical. Most species are faced with water deficit from time to time. Various winds also influence the climate

The importance of his work lies in the fact that he systematically described groups of plants mentioning differences among them and elaborating on their morphology and reproduction. He  mentions about 550  plants in his work,describing  50 tree species in one volume. In another volume he elaborates on phytogeography and plant diseases. He also examined plant secretions such as gums ,resins and we owe a lot botanical terms to him in Greek(Μαστίχα,πέτασος)

-Organising environmental education programmes at schools so that the young generation learns from hands-on experience.
-Informing  shepherds in the area
-Also monitoring the changes in the populations by field on-the-spot registering.
Botanical gardens are non-existent in the area but in my opinion could play an important role in education and awareness as much as in ex-situ conservation ,along with seed banks.
Cultivation of some wild herbs collected for medicinal purproses could be a great initiative.
The article below mentions the successful cultivation attempt of herbs, among them Sideritis scardica, around the area of Mt. Olympus in the village of Karya.
