<title>Men and women would be accused of witch-craft and be taken into court. When brought in, they either confessed or denied that they were a witch. If one confessed to being one, they were not killed, but their reputation was. They would forever be frowned upon, no respect, and always thought of as an evil witch. However, if one confessed only because they did not wish to die, they would be banned from heaven. It was a huge sin. If one denied it, they would just be sentenced to death. There was no right way out. No one could win with this. </title>

<title>The woman in this picture, Tituba, played a major role win the Salem Witch Trials. She was a slave brought to America working for one of the white families in America. When the parents were away, she would gather the girls (daughters and friends) and tell them the spells she would cast, the curses, and speak of her powers. After this came to light, it explained the girls odd behavior. Tituba was believed to have been a witch who possessed and spread the spirit of the devil into these girls. When brought into trial, she fully admitted to being a witch. </title>

<title>The girls on the left side of this photo are the ones who are thought of to be possessed by Tituba. Being a witch, the girls were thought to have been victims of her influence. They were not punished or trialed like the others were. They were brought to the court room when other men and women who were accused of witch craft were on trial. A lot of the time they would have out of mind reactions to the ones who &quot;were really witches.&quot; They would scream, and wail, and pass out. Some believe the were just playing games, but there were some unexplained situations. All of a sudden all the girls would shiver, and be covered in goosebumps or scream of being scratched and in pain and when they lifted their shirts or sleeve there were scratch marks. </title>

<title>The Puritans were a group of settlers who came from England seeking religious freedom. They were against the Catholic religion and wanted to come to America to practice the ideas of John Calvin. They were the pilgrims, the ones who came on the mayflower, the founders of Thanksgiving. The main idea of creating their new religion was too purify Catholicism. They believed in total depravity, that Satan was alive and well, and that they were on a mission from God. Coming here, they created a theocracy government, blending the church and state. </title>

<title>Puritans believed that the devil was alive, well, and active in their community. For all bad things that happened, they blamed the devil. It was not easy to move from England to America and start a whole new life. They were facing constant hardships of creating a successful society and culture for themselves. According to their theories, the devil did not work alone. Since he was active in their society, he would recruit and possess others. Those accused of witches were typically thought to have been possessed by Satan, himself. </title>
