At first, I was not interested in visiting another art museum. However, once I stepped past the admissions desk I saw how many cultures were represented under one roof and it astonished me. I had the chance to see all different pieces of art starting from the Ancient World to the Americas. I did not even finish going around the entire building; there is a wide variety of collections that would take a few days to see. When I went around the Roman arts I was speechless. I have learned many facts about this culture in Latin class and I finally got to see the art in person. With the many wonderful places I've seen I would say this place, Kensington Palace, and Westminster Abbey were my favorites.

Miranda Matthews House of Faun Pompeii, Italy

All of Latin I and II students learn about the life of Romans and the architecture in Pompeii. When Mount Vesuvius erupted it destroyed much of the city, however, the buildings and art maintained its structure. The House of Faun is one of the largest and most outstanding buildings in Pompeii. The artworks in the house teaches us on how the Romans lived and the history that has occurred. It amazes me how well structured the house still remains and how much knowledge people can learn about Romans just by checking out one of the houses. The mosaics, paintings, and statues have great beauty and history within. Learning about people who do not exist anymore interests me because people should learn about the roots of cultures today. Their existence formed the languages we speak, the architecture around us, and the traditions that are still being used today.
