I really enjoyed Rita's description of the rainforest, where each element is valuable and small and big plants coexist and depend on each other for survival. Even the big slippery rocks that made it difficult for us to get to the warm springs have their role to play.
This is what our society should look like. No matter what your race, religion or background is, you are as important as other members of the society and the world would be missing something without you.
So when we accept that everybody matters and everyone is equally important, the world might become a perfect picture.

ETwinning 15.01.2019

Place: Chute de Chabret et l‘entreprise de rhum Longueteau, Basse-Terre

Today it was not another day in (the same) paradise but a day in another paradise. First we stopped for a walk in the middle of the rainforest next to the volcano Soufrière. Everything was dominated by the color green. So much different trees and plants which is dependent one from another. They all look to get sunray and water to grow but also to get shelter. One can not live without the other.

Then we stopped for a quick walk to river to take a bath in a warm pool thanks to the force of the volcano. The trip to our classroom showed me how much I used to live in a big city with a practical infrastructure und all the comforts reachable next to my home. So the walk was a real adventure: slipping in the mud, tripping over stones, stepping in cold water, running against big leaves and branches. It was not easy but it is important to realize the strength of the nature.

On the way back, after a delicious lunch in Jangal Café, we still visited the factory of Longueteau to have a quick view how the sugarcane becomes the typical Guadeloupe rum.

Chute du Cabret

Today we visited the rainforest and it was an amazing experience.
But there was one thing that ruined my day. On our way to the parc, 1.5 km before the front parc gate, I saw two poor dogs severely emaciated, looking at the cars with a desperate look on their faces. They have been abandoned, left to die by locals. This was confirmed by the lady in the park. She told me that they had been thefor days and the local animal rescue group, if there is any, was notified.
We talk about globalization and competences.
The following come to mind
Global animal abuse
And
What is the use of competences about which we fight so hard to acquire, when the only thing we don't learn to our children and to ourselves is
C o m p a s s i o n And e m p a t h y

We should respect not only one another but also those we share the planet with.

No photo for me today.

Today we had learnt to know Guadeloupe from another perspective, the rainforest and one of the three waterfalls of Carbet. Even if the path to the waterfall was perfectly prepared I had the impression of being right in the middle of the jungle, green everywhere and no visible path on the right or left of the official way. The ecosystem rainforest is astonishing, you can forget the time when regarding all those plants, flowers and water. The second stop which led us along and sometimes through a mountain stream was very challeging because of big rocks and sometimes slippery underground. But we all made it and could enjoy a warm bath in a pool. The Creole lunch was delicious and the sugar can flavour with the chicken unusual but very, very tasty. Last but not least, the visit to the rhum distillery. It is surprising that you can just go into the firm, have a look at the machines, the fields of sugar can and the splendid garden nearby. So cultural and individual learning was very important today.

15th January 2019, Les Chutes du Carbet et Carbet riviére

Today I learned how different the climate zones on a Caribbean island can be. On Basse-Terre, in the region of the volcano La Soufriére, we took a short hike to one of the three waterfalls that ran through the rainforest. A beautiful path along the mossy rocks, the small and larger waterfalls, over bridges and under large canopy trees led us to the second waterfall. To increase the variety of plants in different shades of green was an enrichment and at the same time a calming moment for the visual perception.
The following hike along the Carbet River to one of the rock bathtubs was very rich in contrast to this experienced moment. Here I became aware of the moment of leaving the individual comfort zone, over rocks, big and small, uphill and downhill, crossing the river to reach the destination of the warm rock bath. After this challenge, the bath was a reward.
Our third stop on this day was a visit to the Rhum Distellery de Longuteau et Karukera. The old historic complex exuded a certain charm compared to modern facilities. Although this rum should be one of the best on the island. Note: Even ancient things have their value.

Chute de Carbet
Today we spent time in the rainforest, at one with nature! We spent walking through the rainforest, looking at the beautiful waterfall Chute de Carbet and time in a hot pool. It was lovely to spend another day admiring the wonderful world that we live in. As we walked through the rainforest, we were reminded of how the plants all work so perfectly together. Each dependent on another. This is also true of human life as well. In an article that I read about what we can learn from nature it states: peace and harmony; equality; flexibility and how small things are as important as the big things. We need to care for each other and our amazing world. This is another reminder of the importance of helping the children we teach to be global minded citizens. So that the children of the future "know, care and act".
