Balancing screen time with hands-on learning is vital for young learners to develop essential skills while building technological literacy. Incorporating a mix of activities, such as using computers or tablets for part of the lesson and engaging in hands-on projects, allows children to learn in various ways. Providing opportunities for physical activities alongside screen time ensures they stay active and healthy while learning. Collaborative projects foster social skills and teamwork, contributing to their emotional development. Encouraging students to ask for help when needed and communicating with parents about screen time limits at home are essential practices. By evaluating what works best for each child, teachers can tailor their approach to ensure a well-rounded learning experience that integrates technology with hands-on learning effectively.

I think it is very important to have a healthy balance with screen time and hands on activity so that young learners can develop the necessary social and emotional skills they need in life. Focusing too much on screens can be damaging to a young learner.

A way of balancing the time between these two critical factors withing the classroom would be to have a set amount of time for each, screen time more than hands on learning. Along with the set time, you do not have to use that time all at once and can do it in increments throughout the day and in between do hands on activities.

As educators we should encourage activities that involve arts and crafts, outdoor play, or even group projects to help build on social, emotional, and physical skills. Students can begin slight research individually and then form ideas together in a group project.

I think this question is so important for students and even many adults. In classrooms, it can be more difficult to avoid screen time because students have to use computers for other classes or homework. With that being said, I see no reason why a student cannot have a good mix of both hands-on learning and screen time in a class. For high school, especially, these students do not want one over the other. I'd suggest having set days every week that allow for work or activities to be done physically, while other days can be for computer work.

It's a very hard line to walk. While technology is extremely helpful and should be taught to young learners, it is also very consuming. Students should be given a limit as to how much screen-time they are allowed in school, and teachers should limit the amount of assignments or otherwise that require technology.
