We played with puzzle pieces. We created a puzzle after discussing what we saw in the lake, then we cut out the pieces and put them together into a puzzle.After that, we counted the puzzle pieces to see how many we needed to create this puzzle. Which is harder?
The Kockice brought stones from the lake. We talked about how much each stone weighs, and then we went to check our assumptions. Some results were expected, but some smaller stone that was heavier than the big one surprised us very much. We tried to find out why, but we had to look for the answer in books and encyclopedias.

We collected shells on the lake. We counted them, sorted them by size, and then we wanted to check the weight of the shells on different scales. We learned that smaller closed shells are heavier than large open ones. When we opened them, we found out that there were contents in them and that is why they are heavier.

We played with the fish in the aquarium and the numbers in the aquarium. We cut out and sorted the fish in the lake according to some given numbers, then we compared the fish with each other, which ones are less, which ones are more. During the project, mathematics lessons moved outdoors into nature. The students measured the height of trees and the thickness of their trunks, calculated and compared the results. They recorded the collected data in tables and created charts to present their findings. By examining tree rings, they learned how to determine the age of trees and gained a deeper understanding of the connection between mathematics and nature.
