In my community there is no daycare so a lot of people who are working, who wants to work or young mothers who wants to attend school have struggles getting a baby sitter. If they don’t have babysitter they can’t go to work or go to school. a lot of people in my community goes through that. Having a daycare in each community has to be the top priority in my point of view. Children and toddlers love to learn it’s good to have a daycare for them to learn. Having a daycare is good because it makes them prepare for school and learn how to socialize.

The benefits of having local ECE program or ECE centre.

I know for sure that if Clyde River were to get an ECE centre/daycare, lots and lots of infants and toddlers would be going to the centre. There are people working and young people getting babies while they’re still in school, sometimes there are people asking for babysitter through social media. And sometimes, some people have no choice but to quit their jobs because they have no babysitter. And in my community, most toddlers don’t really know how to talk or communicate, if there were to be an ECE centre, lots would develop language skills majorly.

In the community where I came from, the is Saipaaqivik daycare infant is licensed for 4 infant. And the age limits is also limited for examples 2-3 years old and the 4-5 years old. I’m not sure how many limits it is. And not all the students that want to attend school or want to graduate, they get lack of baby sitters due to if the Saipaaqivik daycare is full with spots, it is also for the parents that work other places. I’ve heard about the High School got a daycare facility in the High School but it has to be certified to open the Daycare in the High School

Where I’m from (Pangnirtung) we have two daycare facilities in two different buildings, one at our High School where the High School students are first priority to get a spot for their child before local residents so they can get the diploma that they need. The one at the high school is closed during the summer when the students have a summer break and reopens when school opens again.

And the other daycare we have is open to public that are on the list of waiting to get a daycare spot, but some wait for so long as the two daycares has no enough spots.

In my community we already have daycares one in high school, the one is called piruqsiaq daycare and another is headstart daycare. At the headstart it is a toddler 3 to 4 years old? They are the ones prepare for elementary school. Piruqsiaq daycare is young parents who wants to work or attend school to further their education and some parents to support the family with food/bills.
