Europe was in a terrible state after WWII from all the destruction, so they had to turn to either the U.S or USSR for help. The U.S wanted to stop Communism from spreading so they aided countries in need with billions of dollars. The aid package to Europe was called the "Marshall Plan" and it increased production in Europe greatly

leading to an economic boom.

In 1943 Greek communist tried to end government and the Soviet was helping them by giving aid but to stop spreading communism the US helped Greece government and Greece government defeated communist.

After WWII, a few conferences were held to split apart Germany's territories and was ultimately split in half. The eastern half fell to the Soviets while the western half was split to the allies (U.S, Britain and France). However, Stalin wanted control of the capital which was Berlin who had also been divided. He set up a barricade and stopped West Berlin from getting any supplies. In hopes of starving them he wanted them to cave in to accept Communism. This was named the "Berlin Blockade". Truman acted quickly by sending in aircrafts to rain down food and other needs with what was known as the "Berlin Airlift". This ended in 1949.

In April 1942, 12 countries from North America and Europe gathered in Washington DC to form an alliance against soviets. The members of this alliance called NATO are democratic nations and its purpose to maintain peace and stop wars.

When WWII ends the Germany divided into two parts and Berlin was also divided into two parts east Berlin was control by USSR and west Berlin was control by US but because communism 3 million east Berliner flee to west and to stop that Stalin created a wall between east and west Berlin called iron curtain.

Kim II Sung from North Korea would launch an attack on South Korea a few years later under the pretense of "unifying Korea" with his actions funded by the USSR. America wouldn't stand for this and sent support for South Korea. Additionally, they never "joined" the war officially nor did the Soviets. This was a Proxy War in which they had other countries fight for them in a sense.

In the end, both countries remained separated with different governments.

President Kennedy wanted to invade the country in order to prevent any Communism government but the plan was secretly exposed, and thus the men sent over at the landing zone, Bay of Pigs, were attacked. The whole operation failed and Fidel Castro rose to higher power with the Soviets

The U.S got serious and sent aid to South Vietnam, who they supported as an independent country. It was believed that if one country fell to Communism, then a domino effect would occur with the other nearby countries. For this reason, the U.S desperately fought with overwhelming amount of money and troops but ultimately lost South Vietnam to communism.

In October 1962 when US tried to invade Cuba but Soviet Union helped them and placed nuclear missile in Cuba it makes situation very because if two nuclear attacked happened by any country it could start the WWIII but between two superpowers talked and made an agreement that Soviet will remove missile from Cuba and us will not attack Cuba which ends this tense situation.

American President Richard Nixon traveled to Beijing, China in order to have discussions with the Communist China. This act was motivated off the desire to cool the tensions sprouted by the Cold War. For a week, Nixon talked to Mao Zedong whom lead China. Everything went well, so much that Nixon dubbed it "the week that changed the world."

China's relationship with the USSR dipped down, their reputation taking a hit.

When the Cold War started between the US and Soviet they tried to defeat each other in science, technology, and also in space. After the success of Sputnik in 1957 US committed itself to win the Space war and for that they launched Apollo II on July 16, 1969, it was spaceflight that first landed humans on earth. The flight was commanded by Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin and every major of aspect of this flight was witnessed via television by hundreds of people.

In November of 1989, The spokesperson of East Berlin announced that people are free to travel anywhere they want throughout the city. At midnight the gates opened and crowds flooded throughout checkpoints people used hammers and picks to knock away chunks and they were known as wall woodpeckers. Soon the wall were gone and east west Berlin united for the first time since 1945 and after this the reunification of East and West Berlin was official on Octuber 3, 1990.
