Social media marketing focuses in another direction by attracting the consumer to the product or service. The major difference between the two is that social media is an open platform where consumers can interact with the brand, whereas traditional marketing is the company sharing the brand one way. </description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Social media marketing is the process of gaining traffic or attention through online platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, Linkedin, Youtube, wiki, etc. Online marketing is less expensive and will have a lower cost on your business and the most popular platform currently is Facebook and Twitter. Social media has proven success to improve businesses to increase sales. It is also easy to change content regularly and provides consumers to provide feedback. Some negative aspects to social media marketing could include not having a clear marketing strategy that could impact your business. Social media is requires constant management and daily monitoring – if you are not actively on it, it won’t be as beneficial. For businesses that sell products that can be shipped – social media marketing will be highly beneficial. You would be able to connect with consumers around the world, expanding your business and revenue.</div><div> </div><div>Traditional marketing is considered a type of advertising or promotion that is used by companies that include printed advertisement, television commercials, radio or podcast, billboards, newspaper, brochures, coupons and flyers. Traditional marketing has a high success rate and is proven – although depending on the product or service you are trying to advertise it can be either a strength or weakness. Anyone that gets the newspaper, regular mail service, watches television or listens to the radio will be exposed to the brand you are trying to market. Although, the younger generation is usually taken to social media for news updates – so it all depends on who you are trying to market. If you were opening up a local coffee shop business, the best business marketing tool to use would be traditional marketing. You want the residents living in your area to come to your coffee shop instead of the big brand companies such as Tim Hortons or McDonalds. It would be best to hand out flyers door to door, put a column in the newspaper and post billboards or printed advertisement around the area. Social media can capture a worldwide population to advertise which won’t be helpful if the majority of your followers are out of town or country. </div><div> </div><div>In combination with traditional and online marketing, businesses can expand to their full potential which will access a larger audience. Traditional technique is considered a passive method, while social media targets a specific audience. The example used on the padlet wall is Coca Cola’s marketing campaign “Share a Coke”. In the video it shows the impact on sales, resulting in a 7% increase. In this campaign, they used both the traditional and social media by adding consumer names on the bottles of pop along with a hashtag to allow consumers to spread/share the advertisement. This allows multiple channels that increases exposure – younger audience is more likely to use a social media platform and an older clientele tends to use the traditional method. By understanding their audience, they can adapt commercials and advertisement to appeal to each consumer differently. If businesses don’t use both methods of traditional and social media to advertise their product or service, they are failing to attract all potential customers. An example used that is taking advantage of both methods is Coca Cola Company which resulted in advanced success.</div>]]></description>
