We all have our units or field trips to know our community, this was a great way of adding a range of skills while knowing your community.

The project of adding all their learnings their learning to create a kids-friendly website was great. Easy for everyone to know about Liberty station.

Math+art+physics

I find students often have difficulty with this and need support.

My strategy is by "chunking" portions of the entire lesson, and having formative learning activites that can be later applied to the final larger activity.

Chunking can make the perseverance easier.

Do we prefer to be healthy or do we want convenience?

Actions:

1)engaged students in working with local marine scientists to learn about the different tools and techniques that scientists use to study the ocean

2)Students focused on types of ocean pollution (trash and sound) and explored ways each type of pollution affects the ocean and their own environments (home and school).

3) Translate their knowledge about the ocean into art to share their passion for conserving the ocean.

E.g.: watercoloring projects,

repurposing trash to model ocean animals and rewriting a popular pop song to express their answers to the project's essential question.

4)Students discussed local environmental issues and drafted possible solutions.

5) Skills gained: Students developed collaboration and research skills.

Make an appointment with 1-2 colleagues and reciprocate by offering to critique their units.

Keep the critique session to 30 min so it's less daunting.
