This was a legal case in which the Supreme Court on March 6, 1857, ruled (7–2) that a slave, Dred Scott, who had resided in a free state and territory was not thereby entitled to his freedom; that African Americans were not and could never be citizens of the United States. The Missouri Compromise, which had declared free all territories west of Missouri, was unconstitutional.  On March 6, 1857, in the infamous Dred Scott decision, Scott lost his fight for freedom again.

• This led up to the Civil War because he was one of the many African Americans which were forced back into slavery, he was one of the many slaves who fought for equality.
