Another Tip from Sandy Sometimes I just get stuck and when all of my failure-proof solutions don't work, I seek a new pair of eyes from a colleague. The feedback helps me move forward. My other solution is to just take a break, sleep on it, and at 4:00 am many times the ideas flow. One problem solved but fatigue the next day does not make me productive. :-)

Try it out!
Find a new fun tool? Great. Try using it to see how it works with your activities/LMS features. It may seem obvious, but you realize how complicated some activities can be by trying to do them. Then we can write better instructions and anticipate confusion. Or decide it's not the right tool after all. (See picture below for my first attempt using draw function in Padlet, which takes extraordinary fine motor control to produce a kindergarten picture. Good for lighthearted depictions.)

Make tutorial videos.
If an activity or tool is especially complicated, make a screencast of you doing it while talking through the process. Then post with the assignment instructions. You can also give tips for how to do more/less with the assignment. I've also done this to clarify for individual students, posting a link to the video in their feedback comments. Here's an example: How to Access a Youtube Video Transcript: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VItnSOC8T-U

I find that I'm always reflecting on how online lessons and tech tools are working. What I LOVE about online teaching is that there is always room for improvement - for learning how to do things better the next time. My tip is to use reflection as a component of daily lessons to improve future lessons.

I believe that you should have some fun while facilitating and creating an LMS. If you are grinding through your course creation and you are bored, it is likely that your students will be bored as well. I try to add in things that make it enjoyable for me in hopes that my joy will seep out through my LMS. I have a mascot for my course which is a grumpy cat; it makes me laugh every time I post it somewhere and I feel like it makes my course more human and easier to connect to, enhancing my teacher presence with the online students. Here is the cat so you all can laugh too!
