All of the water on Earth goes around in a cycle. This is called the Water Cycle. We can't create more water, so we need to be careful how we use the water we've got now.

EVAPORATION: the sun heats the water in rivers, lakes, oceans or streams. It then becomes water vapour.

CONDENSATION: when it's in the air, the water vapour condenses, becomes a liquid and makes cloud.

PRECIPITATION: when there's a lot of liquid in the clouds, it rains,

COLLECTION:the rain goes back into the rivers, lakes, oceans or streams, or onto land. From the land it goes into rivers, or animals and plants use it.

Goal 13 calls for urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts. To address climate change, countries adopted the Paris Agreement to limit global temperature rise to well below 2 degrees Celsius. The Climate Action Summit in September 2019 delivered important new actions, a surge in climate momentum, and a clear destination: 45% emissions cuts by 2030 on the way to a carbon neutral world by 2050.

The ocean feeds us, regulate our climate, and generate most of the oxygen we breathe. They also serve as the foundation for much of the world’s economy, supporting sectors from tourism to fisheries to international shipping. But despite their importance, the ocean is facing unprecedented threats as a result of human activity. Every year, an estimated 8 million tonnes of plastic waste end up in the world’s oceans. At the same time, climate change is damaging coral reefs and other key ecosystems; overfishing is threatening the stability of fish stocks; nutrient pollution is contributing to the creation of dead zones; and nearly 80 per cent of the world’s wastewater is discharged without treatment.
