Cooking itself is a new skill that I learned. As I only eat one meal at home because of my job and if I am not working, I do my schoolwork, I never really got an opportunity to learn how to cook. I only know how to cook some basic meals. My sister learned how to make apple pie, but instead of making it with flour, she decided to make it with oats. When I tried it, I delicious and I decided to learn how to make it. She modified and made it super healthy by garnishing with nuts. It was not easy as I thought it would be. It was tough to cut nuts. I improved my focus as I had to use a shaper knife and watch out not to cut myself. Secondly, I learned a skill to make my diet healthy. I am a picky eater, and I do not eat any meat, and I lack adequate protein and nutrients in my meals. My sister told me nuts contain fat, fibre and protein, and there are many more benefits. Lastly, documenting my learning process this way is more straightforward than writing notes. For me, I find that pictures are much easier to remember what happened. I can remember the order in which everything happened. Also, taking pictures to allow us to notice things that we did not get to observe while it was happening. To conclude, in the future, I will take pictures while jotting notes about children's conversations simultaneously. As pictures can give me more time to think about what is going on and also add to my observations

For this part of the assignment, I decided to choose Parc de Belvedere, which is located in Sherbrooke, Québec. It is the park that I went to every day when I was young. I loved this park as it has more options to play, but I never realized that this park was made based on the checklist. It looks like they had to put on lots of effort and think to make such an inclusive, fun, and invite the park. I was surprised this park has almost everything that is listed on the checklist.

Even though it is made based on a checklist, and it makes sure that it is very inviting, the checklist made me realize some parts are hazardous. This park only has a general fence surrounding the play area, and they have a parking lot and sidewalks to run or bike. It can be dangerous for young kids as they tend to be highly active and run all over the place without watching their surroundings. It can be hard to stop them. In my opinion, to make it safer for younger kids, they should add a fence for each part of the play area. This way, parents and caregivers can easily supervise them.

As I was going through the checklist, I realized I have never seen any park with a first aid area. Parc de Belvedere is a vast park consisting of all kinds of activities for young toddlers and senior citizens. Children usually get over-excited seeing a big park with plenty of play options, and they tend to get too active. If a child falls or gets injured while playing, it does not have a first aid area to disinfect the wound. It can be very harmful to them as it might get infected if not taken care of it on time. It would be great to see first aid tools in parks as there are high chances of getting hurt, and it is not only for children but also for others as it is an active place.

As it is mentioned on the checklist, this park does not have an indoor area. It does have a place where they can go if it suddenly starts to rain, but it is an open area with a roof and does not have any play materials. That area is meant for seniors who come to dance twice a week. If they rebuild it to make an indoor play for kids when seniors are not using it, it will be more playful for kids. It will also be beneficial for everyone as they can be protected when it rains. Also, during winter, it can be a warm place where if children are too cold, they can still get a chance to play and socialize with others.

From the checklist, I liked the idea of including more nature in the park. As children learn better through play, it is good to include a garden in parks. It will make children curious, which leads to discovering nature. It also teaches them a sense of responsibility and takes care of others as they will need to water plants every day, or it is a healthy development. Most importantly, as children get older, they can learn about science concepts. It will lead them to learn about the importance of sun and water for living beings. Therefore, adding a garden and letting childing explore it is incredibly beneficial for children.

Overall, the checklist concept was fascinating. It made me realize that so many parks are missing many essential parts that should be part of the park. It made me think very deeply, and It was interesting to discover people did not think about adding a first aid station to such an active place. We should focus on parks' essential needs as there are higher chances of injuries and make ensure everyone enjoys safety.

Study area

I always knew that my room is not the best area to make my study area. I was thinking of looking for ways to make my study area best for learning. That is why I was considering finding some other place to study, but now I decided to stay in my room after doing this research. When I looked through the websites for an optimal study area, I realized I have many listed things. To begin with, make the study room friendly. I have decorated my room in a way where I can get a positive vibe. I have some inspirational quotes like "life is a beautiful ride" "failure is not the opposite of success it is part of success." If I am ever trying to give up or thinking I can never do it, I can look at these beautiful quotes, which keeps me motivated.
Secondly, have some natural light in the area. If I go to the living room to study, I will need to keep on the move as the sunlight is direct, and I will get distracted. My room is bright, and the sunlight is not direct.
Additionally, I have three different kinds of lights to manage, depending on my mood. Make the area quiet and distraction-free. I am not good at concentrating when it is completely quiet. As I am on my bed, if it is too quiet, I fell asleep. Therefore, my mum suggested getting something like a fish tank. The movement of fish and the bright light of the tank helps me a lot. As I can turn it off when it is my bedtime, it makes it easier as well. Lastly, I feel incredibly comfortable to study in my bed. As I read the article, studying on the bed is less useful for learning as the brain considers the bed to a resting place. Therefore, I am thinking of getting a desk and chair. It is motioned that making study place as a classroom is more effective for learning.
To conclude, from this research, I learned many ways to make my study area an excellent place to learn. I liked the idea of keeping sticky notes for current thoughts. It happens to me so often that I remember an essential thing to get done while studying, but I do not do it as it will divert my focus. Later, I forget and panic at the last moment. That is why to prevent me from forgetting things, and I will start keeping a notebook.

Mike(ch) is four years old, and he is in a kindergarten class. I observed he is continually active and likes to keep on doing something every time. First, Mike was in the kitchen area the most were proved that he knows some number and colours. He pretended to make pizza; while making, he said, “the big one is $5, the middle one will be $3, and the small one is $2”. After finishing making it, he went around and pretended to sell pizza. His uncle said, “I want more green olives, tomatoes, and mushrooms.” Mike went back to the kitchen and added green buttons, saying “green olives, tomatoes and mushrooms,” adding red buttons for tomato and white for mushroom. Mike matched the colours of ingredients and names the colours. Secondly, Mike is very attentive to details. He sat in his car and said, “I will go to Walmart to get fruits and vegetables, also ice cream,” and went around the living room. While he was driving, he suddenly stopped and said, “It is a red light. I need to wait until it turns green and I can drive; I also need to stop in the red sings.” He was showing all the observations he did. Lastly, he showed he has a great understanding of letters and numbers in his native language. He took out his book and started reading the alphabet and numbers. While reading the letters, he tried to find different objects and names that start with that letter. To conclude, Mike was engaged in a kitchen area the most; he pretended to play and showed he is observing everything, and he has an understanding of numbers and letters.

Good observation skill is essential for teachers and caregivers. Through observation, we can learn better about children and provide the best childcare service. While observing a child, it is crucial to see things from his/her point of view. Due to a lack of life experience, children cannot see and think of the way adults do. Just like the pictures I took, if we look at things from a different angle, our perspectives might completely change. Therefore, if a child is continually having a hard time, we need to observe to find the reason for the behaviour using his/her perspective. Secondly, This experience made me realize we need to see further, not only what is in front of our eyes. Sometimes things are not exactly what we see. For example, in the worm's eye, that small rock might be a tall mountain, preventing for seeing through. While providing care, we need to be very focused and observe everything as sometimes children might misunderstand the situation, and we need to help them remind them what happened. Lastly, this assignment made me think being a small creature in the world can be scary and exciting as everything around is big. An unfamiliar object might be terrifying and stressful. Therefore, teachers and caregivers need to observe what children know and want to know and present one thing at a time in the simplest way possible. Overall, this assignment helps me understand the importance of considering others' perspectives; while someone sees a small rock, others might be seeing it as a big mountain.
