Broken promises took place in many parts of the story but one of the most heart breaking promises was when Jeannette asked Rex to promise to stop drinking as her birthday present something he couldn't even keep.

This picture shows the love Jeannette always had toward her father out of all the things he made her go through. She worried for her father even when she was angry at him. The quote shows how after everything when Jeannette needed the money to enroll to Barnard he helped her out.
