On March 25, 1911 a fire broke out killing 146 employees. With only one functional elevator that could only hold 12 people, 2 stair cases that were not accessible to anyone working in the factory, and a rotting fire exit, it was close to impossible to escape in an emergency. Additionally boxes were blocking windows and doors. Essentially, the men did not trust their workers, and would do anything to keep them working as long as possible.

In my opinion, the men were at fault for amount of lives lost in the fire due to their lack of trust, respect, and care for their employees. The men should have never opened the factory with such unsafe working conditions. Before opening they should have repaired the safety hazards to ensure easier access outside in an emergency.

Isaac Harris and Max Blanck were to blame for the deaths of their employees. Making this a crime in my opinion. The two men were on trial for manslaughter for a few years after the fire but were never charged. To make matters worse, they continued opening factories, and continued with the safety hazards. They were fined multiple times and clearly never learned from their mistakes.
