It is critical to have a connection for all three components because it ensures that is has students as the focus for the goal but it builds on the teachers' strength as well as increasing opportunities for the students to practice. So it still has the students as the ultimate goal. By using the teacher's strengths it builds on those mindframes and where the teacher is in the cycle. In the end you still want the goal to be relevant to what the teacher is supposed to be doing so it has to be tied back into the curriculum or content needs.

A connection between goals and needs is critical to guide students toward mastery. The job of the educator is to help students achieve academic mastery, so the process has to start there. The teacher and coach then build their goals around that. Misalignment within these three elements will make for weakened coaching and less student academic success.

It’s critical to connect the coaching goal, the teacher’s instructional goal, and the curriculum because when everything is aligned, coaching actually impacts what happens in the classroom. That connection keeps the focus on what students need to learn, not just on teacher moves in isolation, and it ensures coaching supports real instruction tied to standards and content instead of feeling disconnected or extra.

We want our students to see that everyone promotes their success and learning. When we're all connected, students will feel like it matters. The coaching goals and the teachers' instructional goals embedded within the curriculum should all be aligned to promote student learning.

It is critical to have a connection between the coaching goal, teacher instructional goal and curriculum/content needs so that our actions are always student-focused. When we are setting an individual goal, we must always set it with the purpose of improving student performance. So our coaching should be to help teachers find and use tools and resources to create lessons that moving student achievement.

Q1 You are wanting to set personal goals with teachers, not for teachers. The coaching goal is important because it will drive the teacher. The teacher goal is important because it will drive the students. The curriculum and content needs are important because they are tools used by the coach to show the teacher how to model best practices, which will then lead to the teacher implementing those best practices, which will then lead to students showing growth and learning the intended content and how to apply it and then will show mastery of the standards.

It is critical to have a connection between all three because in the end ownership of the learning goal belongs to everyone involved in the process. It begins with the needs of the students, then moves to the goal of the teacher to get the students where they need to be from the teaching provided, which leads to the goal of the coaching to help the teacher to meet her goal. It all blends together to provide for the students.
