         <description><![CDATA[<div>The Aztecs used the cochineal beetle to make red dye.  They dried the beetle. They took the beetle and crushed them into a red powder. They added water to the powder and made a scarlet red dye. These beetles are still used in cooking and dyeing clothing today.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Once the spainish had conquered the aztecs they took one of their biggest inventions the red dye.  Then the spainish took this back to spain and sold it within their communities. As it grew to become more popular they sold it to britan. The british then took it to make the red coats for the british army. Then the british and the spanish sold it world wide. after the war. Red dye is now used almost everywhere around the world This is one of the reasons we have red dye today. </div>]]></description>

         <title>Cochineal Beetle by: Taylor</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>     The North of Lanzarote has fields of prickly pure cactus that have harvest tons of Cochineal beetle and their red dye that they produced. The female don't have wing but have a soft body in a shape of an oval and 5mm in size.  The females eat off of the cactus juice and the plant itself. Somethings when the wind blows the beetle will be moved to a new plant to feed off of. Then they will start a new generation on that cactus. The beetle are harvested about 90 days old.  These beetle have replaced artificial food coloring in the middle of the 19 century. The Cochineal Beetle is also non poisonous.</div>]]></description>

They would often collect large amounts of beetles in large groups of slaves. They colleted it from the prickly pear cactus, and slaves would often get pricked by the cactus.</div>]]></description>

Some royal families made their some head dresses and clothing out of red.&nbsp; The spainish also used the same technique to make the red dye. Now it the red dye&nbsp; is popular all around the world. We today use the same techniques to make red dye and red organic food coloring.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>
