It was 1803, people were traveling west. When the west was talked about the main words were...
fertile land, gold, a fresh start. A little later in 1846 a group know today as the Donner party set off for the west coast. Most pioneers go north through Idaho before going south into Nevada. But a dis honest tour guide book author promoted a supposedly straighter and faster path. Despite the warning of a man named James Clyman, an experienced mountain man the 20 wagons took off down the path. After passing through a desert and almost dying for dehydration and starvation they made it to the mountains. As they were walking through the mountains they became snowed in. After sitting and contemplated their option the 15 strongest members and makeshift snow shows and went to get help. The remaining members soon ran out of food and resorted to cannibalism. Out of the 81 members that started only 45 walked out alive.

Mills and factories started popping up it was the beginning of the industrial revolution. This is a period of time during the 1800s that transformed largely rural, agrarian societies in Europe and America into industrialized, urban ones. During this time new inventions were made to help make life easier. But with factories and mills there were some problems. One was child labor. Kids as young as 6 years old would work in a mill. Another problem was accidents. Because of how dangerous it was to work in a mill there were many issues. On average one person would pass away a week.

I have a voice and i am going to use it. Important topics can't go unheard. I might have little impact but it's better than sitting back. Then most women were not allowed to own land. How would people react if I were to protest and make a statement. I honestly dont really know. Would I go against the patriarchy? Would I stick to my role? Would my voice change how people viewed women? Would I be the first in college, or to own land? It is all up to the imagination. There is no right or wrong.

After watching the movie Ticket to Freedom, slaves believed that the underground railroads was their ticket to freedom because it helped a lot of slaves to escape without getting caught. A ticket to freedom that we have today is being able to pick our careers. Women don't have to be told what they should be or how they should do it. My ticket to freedom id having a right to higher education, the right to vote (at the age of 18), being able to do what I want when I want. Showing that "social norms" are unrealistic. Being your own person is more than enough.

But in the beginning the south had a great strategy, they did not think about a plan B if that did not work. If I had to guess I think that the north had better weapons because they had the way higher iron produced. The proper supplies needed were not yet available to the hospitals. Doctors did not have a good idea on how disease spread and have little to no training. Due to the fact that there were no antibiotics the only way to heal or get rid of a wound or infection was amputation. This also was a dangerous process because of sanitary concerns. Out of the 620,000 people that died 400,00 of those deaths were because of diseases. The only woman to work as a doctor during the war was Mary Walker.
