Eurystheus gave hercules a challenge that he didn’t think hercules could accomplish. His challenge was to go out kill, and bring back the skin of a invulnerable lion that terrorized Nemea. He showed up at cleonae and stayed at molorchus house, and he offered a sacrifice to pray for a safe lion hunt. When he left he said that if he wasn’t back in thirty days to have a 

sacrifice for him, but if he was back, he’d have a sacrifice to Zeus. He left and found the lion and went to fight it, but his arrows were no match for the lion, so he grabbed a club beat the lion and choked it to death. Hercules went back to molorchus carrying the dead lion skin, so they had a sacrifice together for Zeus. When Hercules brought the lion back, the king became afraid of him and all of his powers.

 

This story shows me that Hercules had crazy power and strength. In the story it says how the lion was super strong and Hercules shouldn’t have had a chance to beat it, but he did. The story says “Grasping the lion in his mighty arms, and ignoring its powerful claws, he held it tightly until he had choked it to death”.

Another thing that the story showed me was that Hercules would go against all odds in order to get rid of the wrong he did when he killed his family. The mission to kill the lion was said to be impossible, but Hercules had to try it. The story said that this was a “seemingly impossible mission”. He would somehow conquer it and go back for his next mission.

One thing the story makes me think about is the animals. Hercules fights a lion in the story so it makes me think about all of the different animals in Greece. In the story they called it the “invulnerable lion that terrorised the hills around Nemea”. 

Another thing that this makes me think about is the government. In this story, it says that Eurystheus is the king, so it makes me think that they have a monarchy. The reason i think this is because the story says “King Eurystheus decided Hercules’ first task”.

Something else this makes me think about is the way they pray. The reason i say this is because one of the pictures shows the temple of Zeus. The quote below this picture says “Nemea, Temple of Zeus and landscape.

The last thing this makes me think about is the weapons that they used in those days. In the story it says how he used bows, arrows, clubs, and sometimes just straight up fists. A quote to go along with this is “He soon discovered his arrows were useless against the beast. Hercules picked up his club and went after the lion”.
