We have learned all of the letter sounds (short vowels only) and are now segmenting (stretching each sound apart) and blending (putting sounds together to form a word) CVC words! CVC words are words that are consonant, vowel, consonant. Students have been very interested in writing their own books in our class! It seems becoming an author is rather exciting! We started with  just free writing and recently have been using our knowledge of sounds to use sentence starters for our books, such as "I can..." Syllables have been a big focus and we are moving into rhyming words and word families. Students continue to love Epic! Books online. Using number bonds has been a big focus and we are getting pretty good at using them! This is a simple activity you can do at home with dice or by just throwing out numbers to your child! The main thing to remember is the two smaller circles (or squares, hearts, etc. - parts) get put together to make the big number! Part-part-whole! We will also be delving into data management and making graphs, surveying our friends and so much more! A fun game we love to play to practice our numbers to 10 is "Ten and Out" - we play counting by 1s, as well as by 2s!
