Hello everyone, welcome to my first blog of the first week for usrah! I was quite excited for it as I have also experienced it in my previous school where I get to hear good stories about our religion which is Islam and also helped improved my overall life.

During this first week, we've done an ice breaking session between ourselfs. I didn't expect that the Usrah group is going to be this much. Therefore, I think it would be normal due to UIA normal section are around 25+ people per section. We get to learn about each other traits through a simple game where everyone needs to give two words about their hobby or just about anything interesting about them. I couldn't remember any of the names cause I don't usually remember someone's name in a day, but in months actually. Therefore, I just smiled at everyone.

Our facilitator explains to us 'What is actually is usrah?".

Here I write some notes that I could remember :(

Usrah comes from a word in arabic (الأسرة) which by means is family. In other way, usrah is a group/a foster family we could say that we'll help each other by sharing knowledge or even sharing our problems that maybe could help us relieve us a bit in this tough schedule of foundation.

There's 3 (I don't know how to say it in english) Rukun we'll say in usrah which is,

1. Ta'aruf ( التعارف ) which by means that we'll greet each other and get to know each other better. Why would we call as a family if we did not know each other right?

2. Tafahum ( التفاهم ) which by means to know each other (saling memahami). Just like our family, we try to actually feel what the other end feels like by telling the story of their life to us. This is really important if we wanted to keep the bonding between each other. And I've enjoyed it so much as well.

3. Takaful ( التكامل ) which by means that we keep help each other. In family, we always encounter this phase "Together We'll Fall, Together We'll Rise" which that we will always help each other in their problems or even improving the state of their life by giving a good knowledge.

I think these three things which are small, but it is really important if we want to help each other out in our life.

I think that's all for now. See you in the next blog! Peace :)

USRAH 2 - STORIES IN SURAH AL-KAHFI

Hello everyone! Welcome to my second blog of usrah :). Last week usrah was cancelled because the facilitator wanted to give way to other people to also go home (including me:)). So, for this session, our facilitator continued on planning of our usrah meeting such as venue and also activities.

We've come up with the venue which is at Mahallah Al-Zahrawi Musolla because everyone lives in Mahallah Zahrawi and it is quite nearer than I need to walk until the Academic Building.

So, in this session of usrah, we've recaped the 3 rukun of Usrah which is ta'aruf, tafahum and takaful. We've continued a bit of the intro of usrah which are activities we'll do for the rest of the session in this semester. What we've planned is to have a short recitation of Al-Quran (one verse per person) at the beginning of the session. It was quite good and I've enjoyed it. The reason we're having it to have a (sesi penyucian jiwa) for the session.

After that, we enter the stories contained in the usrah but we only enter one which are the stories Nabi Musa and Nabi Khidir. The stories told about where Nabi Musa wanted to learn with Nabi Khidir but Nabi Khidir told him that he wouldn't be (sabar) for everything that he going to do to village, boat. This story holds a good value which I learned is to always be sabar in everything we do in life. And also, to always learn new things. Just like a phase "Learning never ends".

That's all everything I have to say for this session. See you in another one! Cheers!

USRAH 3 - HADIS JIBRIL (PART 1)

Hello everyone, welcome to another blog of Usrah. In this session, our facilitator opens up a new story which reflected with (Hadis Jibril).

In this session, we've discussed about the contents of Hadis Jibril. Hadis Jibril tells about 3 important values which are the values of Islam, Iman, Ihsan dan the signs of Kiamat but we only discuss only Islam and Iman.

In this Hadis, we've discussed about the values of Islam which are the 5 rukun Islam that we've hold on which are The Kalimah Syahadah, Do prayers 5 times a day, Gives Zakat, Puasa in the Ramadhan month and also Do Haji if we are able to which divides into our time, budget and also the commitments. It makes me realised that even if everyone do these 5 things doesn't mean they are the most Islamic person yet. Then, we go into the rukun of Iman which we believe in Allah, Malaikat, Rasul, Al-Quran, the of Kiamat and Qadha and Qhadar. In this part, I learned that we not only need to say I believe in them but also do what it takes to show we believe in them.

Therefore, I think this session is a really good one because I got to relate a lot with things that I've done in life and how to learn about it more.

Thus, I think that's all for this session. We'll see you in a bit.

Welcome everyone to the last session I guess due to many difficulties for 2 after this session. I would like to say that I've enjoyed for the rest of the Usrah session and I would like to have it more in the future.

Without further ado, we'll get into it. This session focuses in the same Hadis Jibril. The remaining balance things that we haven't discussed yet which are Ihsan and the signs of Kiamat.

Before I forgot, I forgot to tell a bit about this Hadis. This Hadis tells a story about a unknown person perhaps? which we call that person is Malaikat Jibril that changes shape into a person. This person meets with Nabi Muhammad SAW and asks him a few questions. These questions because these 4 points that we've obtained from this Hadis which is the values of Islam, Iman, Ihsan and also a bit signs of Kiamat.

We've discussed about Ihsan which I think is an act or a commitment to do the Amalan better in this world. The facilitator tells about examples of Ihsan like when we were doing the prayers, we will like feel like Allah is watching us. Due to that, we'll do the Amalan better and tried to do it perfectly. And I think this one really catches me because I could relate it in my daily life.

But the last one in the Hadis, when the Sahabat of Prophet asked about the signs of Kiamat also tells about. This one helps tells me realised that we are living in the end of the world which that we need to do more good things in life so that we'll see the good things later in Syurga.

I think that's all for now. I think this Usrah session is a good one and I hope that I could be in this one also too again. For improvements of the usrah, maybe we could have a quiz for every topic so that could be even more fun. Peace :)

Hello everyone, now I am going to write about this week's topic which is The Purpose of Ibadah.

ʿIbādah, often translated as ‘worship’, is a comprehensive term for every action and utterance that Allah (subḥānahū wa taʿālā) loves and is pleased with.

ʿIbādah consists of:

Actions of the limbs, or physical acts of worship.

Actions of the heart, or inner acts of worship. These include: firm belief (īmān), knowledge of Allah (maʿrifah), sincerity (ikhlāṣ), piety and mindfulness (taqwā), trust in Allah (tawakkul), hope (rajā’), fear (khawf), gratitude (shukr), patience (ṣabr), love (ḥubb), yearning for Allah (shawq) and certainty (yaqīn).

Every act of worship in Islam consists of both an outer manifestation (‘action of the limb’) and an inner reality (‘action of the heart’), which is its essence and core.

The outer manifestation of ṣalāh consists of rukūʿ and sujūd, whilst its essence is khushūʿ.

The outer manifestation of fasting is to stay away from anything that invalidates the fast, whilst its essence is taqwā.

The outer manifestation of ḥajj consists of ṭawāf, standing in ʿArafah and the pelting, whilst its essence is to honour the symbols of Allah (subḥānahū wa taʿālā).

The outer manifestation of duʿā’ is to raise the hands and utter words, whilst its essence is humility and an utmost need for Allah (subḥānahū wa taʿālā).

The outer manifestation of dhikr is to utter Subḥānallāh, Alḥamdulillāh, Allāhu Akbar etc. whilst its essence is loving, fearing and having hope in Allah (subḥānahū wa taʿālā); and contemplation upon His creation and blessings.

That's all from me.

Hello everyone, here we again in my reflection of this week's topic regarding Khushū and its importance during Salah.

Khushūʿ is one of the actions of the heart. Linguistically, khushūʿ means to sink, to be low, to be subservient and to be still. Technically, it refers to the heart that stands with complete humility, lowliness and full concentration towards Allah. Khushūʿ resides within the heart and is manifested through the limbs and organs.

With khushūʿ your heart softens, becomes still, and humbles itself to its Lord. Your heart submits and focuses on Allah to such a degree that everything else retreats into insignificance. Your limbs and organs then follow the heart and they too are humbled.

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “There is a lump of flesh in the body: if it is sound, the whole body will be sound but if it is corrupt, the whole body will be corrupt. Truly, it is the heart” (Bukhārī).

Although the focus of this write-up is khushūʿ within ṣalāh, it is important to note that you should also strive to experience khushūʿ outside of ṣalāh. Imām al-Ghazālī (raḥimahullāh) described khushūʿ as the fruit of īmān and the result of a firm conviction in the greatness of Allah. If you are blessed with this, you will enjoy khushūʿ in and outside of ṣalāh – even when alone and away from others. Continuously remembering that Allah sees you, being in awe of His greatness, and recognising your own deficiencies will lead to a constant state of khushūʿ.

Khushūʿ is a state in which you constantly weigh up your sins against the greatness of Allah, leaving you overwhelmed with humility and a desperate need for Him.

I think that's all for this session of reflection. I'll see you guys in a next one!

Khushūʿ magnifies and multiplies the rewards of good deeds. Ibn Taymiyyah (raḥimahullāh) explains that even though there is a great reward in reciting Sūrah al-Ikhlāṣ (as it equates to one third of the Qur’ān), if one was to read any other āyah with khushūʿ, the reward of it would be greater.

Hello everyone, today we are going to reflect towards this week's topic which is the virtues found Ṣalāh with Khushūʿ.

1. Achieving success in this world and the hereafter

In Sūrah al-M’uminūn, Allah mentions that the first trait of the successful is khushūʿ in ṣalāh. Allah says, “Successful indeed are the believers, who are humble in their ṣalāh” (23:1-2).

Thus, if you want true success, firstly, you must have īmān and secondly, you should perform ṣalāh with khushūʿ.

2. Becoming sin-free like a newborn

Amr b. ʿAbasah (raḍiy Allāhu ‘anhu) narrated a long ḥadīth in which he described the virtues of wuḍū’. He reported the Prophet ﷺ saying, “And if he stands to pray and praises Allah, extols Him and glorifies Him with what He is most deserving of; and shows wholehearted devotion to Allah, he will revert to being sinfree (as pure) as he was on the day his mother gave birth to him.”

ʿAmr b. ʿAbasah (raḍiy Allāhu ‘anhu) states that he heard this from the Prophet ﷺ more than seven times (Muslim).

3. Having previous sins forgiven

ʿUthmān (raḍiy Allāhu ‘anhu) performed wuḍū’ and then said, “I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ perform wuḍū’ like this and he then said, ‘Whoever performs wuḍū’ like this wuḍū’ of mine, then performs two rakʿah of prayer during which he does not let his thoughts wander, Allah will forgive all of his previous sins’” (Bukhārī).

4. Earning a guarantee of Paradise

ʿUqbah b. ʿĀmir (raḍiy Allāhu ‘anhu) heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, “If any Muslim performs wuḍū’, and does so properly, then stands and performs two rakʿah of prayer in which he focuses with his heart as well as his face [i.e. is not physically distracted], Paradise is guaranteed for him” (Muslim).

When ʿAbdullāh b. al-Zubayr (raḍiy Allāhu ‘anhu) stood up to pray, he was described as being ‘like a stick (i.e. motionless) with khushūʿ’. Once, during the siege of the Kaʿbah, whilst he was prostrating, a catapult struck him and tore part of his garment, but he did not even raise his head!

I think that's all for now.

Hello everyone, today I am going to reflect into this week's topic which is regarding Ṣawm or we call it as fasting instead.

This write-up is based on Maarif-Ul-Quran's tafsir on Sūrah al-Baqarah (2: 183 – 187).

Literally, Sawm صوم means to abstain'. In the terminology of Islamic law, Sawm صوم means 'to abstain from eating, drinking and sexual inter-course; with the conditions that one abstains continuously from dawn to sunset and that there is an intention to fast'. Therefore, should one eat or drink anything even a minute before sunset, the fast will not be valid. Similarly, if one abstained from all these things throughout the day but made no intention to fast, there will be no fast here too.

Sawm or 'fasting' is an ` ibadah, an act of worship in Islam, regarded as its pillar and sign. The merits of fasting are too numerous to be taken up at this point.

Past communities and the injunction to fast

The verse makes it obligatory for the Muslims to fast in a specified period, but the command in this respect has been accompanied by the statement that the obligation of fasting is not peculiar to them. The fasting had also been enjoined upon the earlier Ummahs (communities of the past prophets). The reference to the earlier Ummahs in the verse shows the importance of fasting on the one hand, and gives an encouragement to the Muslims on the other. It indicates that although there may be some inconvenience in fasting but the same inconvenience was also faced by the earlier communities. This brings a psycho-logical comfort to the Muslims, because if an inconvenience is faced by a large number of people, it becomes easier to bear. (Rub al-Ma` am)

The words of the Qur'an, لَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِكُمْ (those before you) have been used in a general sense including all religious communities from Sayyidna Adam (علیہ السلام) to the last of the Prophets ﷺ . This tells us that, like Salah, fasting has also been enjoined upon every .Ummah of every prophet without an exception.

Commentators who interpret مِن قَبْلِكُمْ (before you) to mean the Christians' take it just as an example, not aiming to exclude other communities. (Ruh al-Ma` ani)

The verse simply says that fasts have been enjoined on Muslims as were enjoined on past communities. From this it does not necessarily follow that the fasts enjoined upon the earlier communities were fully identical in all respects with the fasts enjoined upon this Ummah. There may have been differences in the number and the timings of the fasts etc. and, actually, there has been such a difference. (Ruh al Ma’ ani)

By saying لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَّقُونَ (so that you be God-fearing), the text has pointed out to the inherent quality of fasting which contributes significantly to one's ability to become abstaining from the sins and God-fearing. Fasting grows into man a power which helps him control his desires, which is really the foundation of Taqwa تقویٰ , the very special term of the Holy Qur'an which has been tentatively translated as fear of God, abstinence, and the warding of evil.

I think that's all for now. We'll meet again in the next one!

Hello everyone, today we're going to reflect on this week's topic which is regarding the virtues found in Zakāh/ Ṣadaqah.

Before that, we have to acknowledge that Zakāh is actually one of the five pillars of islam that we've uphold upon. Without this, we will feel like we haven't completed the most important things to do when you're a muslim.

Derived from the Arabic word “Sadq” which means truth, Sadaqah is all actions of righteousness according to Islam. In literal terms, the meaning of Sadaqah means spending one’s possessions and abilities in the way of Allah SWT. A large part of the Muslim faith, Sadaqah is a form of action seeking the Pleasure of Allah SWT by giving or helping others in need.

In addition to that, the name “Sadiq”, a Quranic name for boys which also shares the same root word, means “honest”, “truehearted”, “sincere”, “faithful” and “devoted”.

And that's for Sadaqah, but how about Zakāh?

Zakat Derived from the Arabic word "al-Zakat" which means holy, blessing, blessing, bloom, fertilize, grow and charity. In terms of terminology, the obligatory means of delivery which must be done on the part of the wealth of resources that one has a good Muslim to those who deserve it.

The literal, or denotative, definition of the word zakat (sometimes spelled zakah) is “increase,” as in growth (nama). The word also connotes “betterment” (tahsun), “righteousness” (salah), “praise” (hamd), “blessings” (barakah), “purification” (taharah), or “commendation” (madh), in the sense of laudation, meaning to extol with praise.

The word zakah also holds the senses of “justness, integrity, and honesty,” along with “justification and vindication,” while zaka means to “sweeten” something.
