Life is like an ocean

Sometimes so calm and peaceful

Sometimes so restless and wreckful

Yet even after a storm, it will always be so beautiful.

Life is like a hike up a mountain

Reaching the top to watch the sunset

You push through the pain

No matter how rocky the road gets

Nothing that made my blood boil with passion,

that made my heart pump madly with adrenaline running through my veins

No, I was quite numb

I always felt as though everything around me was so bright but I just couldn’t see the colours 

Like I was being robbed of something amazing

A part of me seemed to be missing 

and with my whole body and soul I’ve been searching for it

But I still can’t find it

I realize I’m speaking in the past tense

but that’s because if it was in the present,

it wouldn’t be true.

Something changed one day.

Something ignited a spark,

a very small one but to me, 

it’s like my whole world had burst into flames and it burned bright. 

And although the smoke suffocated me,

when it cleared I felt like I was breathing for the first time all over again

The feeling was so familiar, 

seeing the light and feeling the warmth

Perhaps I hadn’t always been numb and I just can’t remember

because the numbness is like a wall of fog that’s so thick you can cut it with a knife
