Tubular steel has lots of qualities; it is affordable for the masses, hygienic and provides comfort without the need for springs to be introduced. Breuer considered all of his designs to be essential for modern living.

Breuer was inspired by the shape and form of a bicycle handlebars when he created one of his most famous pieces, the Wassily chair No B3 in 1925. The frame of the chair was made from polished, bent, nickelled tubular steel, which later became chrome plated. The seat came in canvas, fabric or leather in black section. This chair has been widely copied.

Chanel’s influence is her desire to create women’s clothing that was both fashionable and practical, to inject ease and comfort into day-to-day style.
Chanel ensured that monochrome pervaded the brand’s image.
While she never shied away from brighter tones, her commitment to rendering outfits in black and white – is a lasting legacy.
Though she bemoaned the number of women who opted for trousers over dresses and skirts later in her life, the designer left an indelible legacy of liberating women to wear traditionally masculine silhouettes.
Living through two World Wars, Coco Chanel let her materials and fits fight the societal influences placed on women at the time. Using jersey, tweed and varying forms of silk, Chanel's creations humanized women's wear and set in stone true, feminine style.
Most of the Chanel accessories are made in Italy. This area is known for their skilled craftsmen, especially when dealing with leather. Chanel purses are made in both France and Italy, and sometimes even Spain. Coco herself wanted her purses and accessories to be both practical and luxurious, and only the finest craftsmen are able to achieve this. These shops have their artisans using fine machines to thread and quilt through the leather, yet they are hand cutting and molding the pieces to fit to perfection. They use both handmade aspects combined with precision machines that are carefully watched
