Japanese Ranking

This society was very structured. The Emperor has the top rank but he is just a figure head so a man that doesnt have real power. The actual ruler is the Shogun (the supreme military commander). It then goes the daimyo who are below him. Samurai warriors came next. The artisans and peasants are followed after. Merchants are at the bottom but gradually became more important as the economy expanded.

3 things I learned

One things I learned was that the people in Japan really enjoyed woodblock prints showing city life. These prints are water based inks that provide a wide range of vivid colors, glazes, and transparency. Another thing I learned is that most people in japan hang paintings that show scenes from classical literature. These are basically paintings that show stories of sorts. The last thing I learned is that there traditional entertainment faced competition in the cities from new styles of literature, drama, and art.

The missionaries were eventually successful in converting considerable numbers of people in western Japan, including members of the ruling class. Although in 1587, Toyotomi Hideyoshi issued an edict banning missionaries from the country due to the religion's political ambitions, intolerant behavior towards Shinto and Buddhism. There intent was to bring Japan under complete control. The succeeding Tokugawa Shogunate further hardened the country's anti Christian stance accusing the religion of obstructing the authorities, antisocial behavior, and intolerance towards the established religions.
