Wladyslaw Gomulka was elected as the leader of Poland in the beginning of February 1956 after the protests for many days in Poland. Hungary's neighbor Austria also showed interests in neutrality between the East and the West. This was able to show Hungary that not only could they successfully carry out a protest but they also did not want to be taken over as now two of their 7 bordering countries had successful and established political systems. Lots of fighting began between the Soviet troops and the Hungarian protesters. The Hungarian troops/ protesters continued fighting and eventually Gero the Soviet party secretary fled back to the soviet union and Imre Nagy a protester became prime minister of Hungary on November 1st, 1956 and Hungary withdrew from the Warsaw pact and had freedom. They did this because they did not want to be attacked or controlled by the Soviet Union anymore as they felt that overtime their involvement would decrease significantly. (reword)After this the Soviet Union fought back extremely aggressively.

Eastern Europe was supposed to be what was known as the “Buffer Zone” and would help protect the S.U. as they didnt want to have an attack become such a close call as it had become when Hitler and Germany almost was able to take over.

There were food shortages which many blamed on the new collective farming. Industrial workers were poorly paid and saw coal, oil and wheat shipped off to the USSR. Hungary was run under a communist political system by the Soviet Union. Many Eastern Europeans were angered because they did not want a new economic system, and to be under Soviet control. September 1956 Hungarians called the Soviet Union for help, in demand of extra deliveries of energy and raw materials and late payments it was due to make. The Soviet Union agreed to this, but the policy line remained the same. Very little adjustments were proposed in Hungary during the discussions about the 2nd five-year plan. Factories, plants and real estate once owned by Germany and then passed into Soviet Ownership. While all located within hungary's land, the soviets would not dual share with the hungarians. The soviet Union gave Hungary the chance to buy back the land that they already should have owned. This meant they would have to contribute a third of their spending to obtain this back. The economy dropped to an all time low because of their spending, inflation, very few workers, imbalanced supply and demand as well as excessive post war reconstruction.

Hungary was lead under Russian control from 1945 to 1956. Russians
were very concerned that the demonstration of democracy would spread across all of
Europe

The 200,000 protesters marching throughout the streets of BudaPest demanded political
freedom. The idea was that everyone's views would be able to be expressed in an
appropriate way and that no one would be punished or penalized for their contributions.
The country did not want one person in power making decisions for thousands of
people. Currently that was not happening and everyone was following the very
conforming ideas of the soviets. Soviets wanted to maintain power through controlling
the ideas of the populace.
