This is an occurring melody throughout the song which is played on a guitar in the intro and sung in the chorus.

The melody first goes up the scale of D major in a conjunct motion from E, F#, G. However, at the end it leaps in a disjunct motion from B to D then A. This contrast between conjunct and disjunct motion creates a strong and memorable melody.
