This is meant to symbolize what little effort those at the school put in to take care of the children there, in turn showing how little they thought of them.</div>]]></description>

She mentions that the wild sunflowers on the edge of her mother's dwelling were broken up by the installation of telegraph poles. This idea seems to create the image of imperialism and the way it has disturbed every part of her culture/livelihood.  </div>]]></description>
