*Note: I was told to do any part of the book because I finished mine. Also, I am sorry that this is so long, but I had a lot to say.

What saddened, but not shocked me, was the ending of my book. Bruno had it coming at him, going to the other side of the fence, but it is still a horrific event. Bruno was killed in the gas chambers. He went to help his friend on the other side of the fence at Auschwitz. Shmuel's father had gone missing, we assume he also died in the gas chambers. Shmuel and Bruno had to go march with the others. They both died holding hands. Bruno's family didn't find out what happened until about a year later what happened to him. His father didn't improve his demeanor though. He was crueler than ever, mad with grief. His mother of course, was ripped apart at what happened. His sister, Gretel spent numerous hours sobbing in her room, "not because she had thrown out all of her dolls, but because she missed Bruno so much.

In Chapter 14, something that stood out to me was how Rivka can tell the story of her family and why most of them are gone and still stay strong through the process. She is able to share with Chaya, Shifre and Esther what happened to her mom, sisters, brother and father. She also helps them understand the life of being in a concentration camp and what to expect. She tells them where to go for safety and where they shall not go. She can do all this while knowing that she has a chance of going through the same action. I think that sharing this with them, Rivka may be helping them with challenges they may face in the future. She also shows the girls how she remembers her number and asks them to do the same for their own numbers. I think that this has helped the girls not only remember their numbers but to help them feel like their are not only.

In chapter 14, I was impresed by Chaya's determination to stay alive. She mentions it twice while creating her memory cue for her number. On age 119 she says "And 9 is for ... well, in English it is pronounced 'nine,' which is like the German word for no. No, I will not die hear. Not now." I thought that this determination will allow her to survive for longer than most. Then imidiatly after that on age 120 Chaya says, "Seven is for-for each day of the week I stay alive. One day at a time." Rivka later on remarks that this statement that Chaya will survive will bring her more determination and keep her focused on the work she will have to to in order to stay alive. This leads me to beleive that Chaya will stay determined and will survive the camps and go on to make sure that people are informed about what happend so that they can make sure it will never happen again.

In chapter 14, the mood/tone that I felt was shown was determination, persistence and understanding. I felt this was because Hannah was being told by Rivka how to survive at the camp. Hannah and Shifre were persistent to learn how to live at camp, then they understood what they needed to do to survive and make the best of their situation. I feel like determination was also present when Hannah was explaining to the other girls what the numbers on her arm meant to her, in which she thought about surviving. I have one question: what is the significance of organization in the camps? The author keep italicizing the word whenever a character said it.

She decides to forget about Hannah and survive as Chaya, even though her friends don't believe her about the gas chambers. I have one question though, how does Rivka get the shoes without the guards noticing?

I was happy that Chaya(Hannah) was finally understanding what is going on with her life right now. Also i'm very intrigued by the new charterer Rivka but I have one question about her. How dose Rivka cope with all of the lose and bad things that have come her way in the past year?I'm also very depressed with all of the sad things that had happend to these people and there family's.

The tone/mood of chapter 14 is one of strength, perseverance, and determination that is needed to survive in the camp. Hannah/Chaya will have to learn these from Rivka in order to stay alive. It appears that Rivka has made connections with people that will benefit their survival, and she has learned how to deal with loss and keep herself strong. Also, Esther's reaction was surprising to me, and I hope to be able to further understand her reasoning for acting as she did, and how her reaction will affect her after reading more of the story.

In chapter 14 the mood/tone that I felt was strength/determination. Rifka was determined to make sure Hannah (Chaya) learned the rules to surviving at the concentration camp. Hannah (Chaya) became determined to survive. While she was in the camp it was becoming harder and harder for her to remember herself as Hannah, not Chaya. Hannah also started to grasp the fact that she wasn't going to be leaving the camp anytime soon so she made up a story for her number so she could remember it.

During chapter fourteen, a thought I had was Rivka was able to be so brave and strong throughout a whole year of being in the concentration camps, and the fact that she is only ten! Rivka believed that she would get out of the camps with her brother. I find it astonishing that a ten year old girl was able to provide and be as capable of what she is doing with having lost multiple of her family members members. Rivka was also giving everyone else advice on the living in the camps and saying she "could organize stuff" and that "she had connections", it amazes me that she is still alive because children were usually killed first with them not being able to handle the hard wok put on them, but she could handle it. Rivka is a strong girl with a fantastic out look on life and an amazingly positive attitude.

She was sure that she was going to survive, despite knowing that people were being killed daily. It says on page 119, "And nine is for ... well, in English it is pronounced 'nine', which is like the German word for no." Hannah also is very conscience of what's going on around her, she does not want to give up hope on Esther after she just walks away.
