- The protagonist learns about a writing competition and is interested in joining it.
- He sees the old winners and he aspires to be part of that legendary ring.
- When he does join, though, he struggles to craft a piece of work.
- He does cook up a story but is uncertain about it and also uncertain about his chances at winning.
- After he submits his work, he just has to wait, which in a way seems like the hardest part. 
- There is a big feel of anticipation during this time which the author did in order to make us invested in the book.
- Also in this chapter, the protagonist is doubting himself and his abilities which is fairly common amongst high school aged kids.
