What social commentary do you think your author was making with this novel? What is the author saying or warning about today's world?

I think what the author is trying to say with "Divided We Fall" is that anything could happen, prepare for the worst, stand as one, "Divided We Fall, United We Stand" type thing. What the author is trying to say or warn about today's world is that People can become corrupt and abuse the power they have and effect lots of others. For example, President Rodriguez went through so much to capture Danny and still failed. He went so far as to sending the military to fight itself. like the Civil War, America vs America.

What aspects of the Dystopian society are found in your novel? What statement is the author trying to make by utilizing that particular aspect? What is the change that your character/s are attempting to bring about? Do you think they will be successful and if so, will the change bring what they hope?

The change that the characters are trying to do is either start new lives or try to continue with their original. I don't know if they'll be successful because the story ends with Danny and his friends (and girlfriend) talking in his house when the tv switches on with the new president announcing a speech about how Idaho is a "State of Rebellion" and how she's gonna end that rebellion, next, the power goes off, and Danny says "My god, They're coming" and he grabs his gun. So, I don't know if they succeed in what they're trying to do 'cause this whole story goes on for like another 1 or 2 books.

Thinking back to the aspects of the Hero's Journey that we studied during the Odyssey, What are some of the elements that are also utilized in your novel and with your protagonist?

There are tough challenges/obstacles that the character has to face throughout his journey/life. With the Fed still trying to capture Danny, his life has gotten to a point of hide and survive. Also, his mother was trapped out of state. (The fed wouldn't let her back into Idaho), So Danny and his friends go to get his mother and bring her back home. Their plan mostly worked until a Fed gunner humvee intercepted them and shot at danny's truck, hitting his mother in the process. And I'm sorry but can we take a moment to say that THESE ARE AMERICAN SOLDIERS FIGHTING AGAINST OTHER AMERICAN SOLDIERS. It's literally The U.S military against ITSELF. I read further into the story and President Rodriguez was shot 3 times and later died, I'm actually agreeing with Danny on this, "I hated the guy, but I didn't want him dead."

The reason why I say survive is because 1. The Fed is after them (mostly Daniel) 2. The news reporters won't leave them alone. 3. Their parents are stuck outside Idaho because the Fed has shut down the borders and they also cut off supply shipments such as foods, drinks, gas, even medicine. President Rodriguez is endangering other innocent civilians just to get Daniel. I don't believe anything like this is happening today in our world, or well I it d

Daniel and his friends are all questioning the same thing, how could the Army go to war against itself? In my opinion, I think that President Rodriguez has gone mad with power.

In the Dystopian Elements handout, there are six examples of conflicts the protagonist/main character might got through. These are not the only conflicts the character might encounter, but just a start. Identify at least one internal conflict your main character is experiencing.

The main character, Daniel Christopher Wright, is currently hiding his identity of being one of the soldiers in the shooting. The fact is that he did fire the first round by accident and never intended to hit anyone. But the protesters took that shot as a threat and drew their firearms and fired back at the soldiers, unaware of a 15 year old girl behind the National Guardsmen. A protester missed one of the soldiers and shot the girl without him even noticing. The operator reacted with 3 - 4 shots into the man's chest, gunning him down without mercy. other soldiers continued to fire a couple more shots, one of them hitting a man in the back, having the bullet go through and hit a girl from an earlier section in the stomach, killing her. The soldiers did have the right to return fire after all because of the protesters shooting at them. They were never intending to kill anyone throughout their deployment in Boise, Idaho.
