With the challenges of educating Military trainees in a post COVID pandemic world we must implement technology-based training methods in our career field training schools. The three technology-based methods that I am proposing will effectively train adult, college-level, students while helping us to maintain CDC standards in our classrooms. The methods that I am proposing are:
1. Blended learning
2. Distance learning
3. Computer-based training (CBT)/Online learning

This method combines traditional in-classroom training methods with web or technology based training methods.

Pros:
1. Combines various methods such as online-learning and in-person training to give students the best of both worlds in training methods.
2. Minimizes negative aspects of online learning, distance learning, or mobile technologies.
3. Gives students more control over their training/learning. Good for self-directed learners.
4. Students receive live social interaction and feedback when in the classroom.
5. Implements the flipped classroom method.
6. Allows more time for self-study/practice.
7. More effective than face-to-face training alone for student motivation/declarative knowledge.

Limiting factors:
1. Bad for students that are not self-directed learners.
2. Students prefer face-to-face instruction. Blended learning is more demanding.
3. Bad for students that lack time-management
4. Requires more time-commitment.
5. Fast changing technology.
6. Insufficient management support.
7. Lack of understanding about this training method and how to implement it.

One of the three courses that I oversee utilizes this method. Students go to class in-person four days a week and attend online training on the fifth day. This course moved to blended learning after discovering that the students needed more in- classroom, hands-on training time due to the course material that was being taught.

This method allows training to be delivered using a computer or the internet.

Pros:
1. Allows students to interact with training material. Creates an interactive experience for students. This can include simulations.
2. Gives students control over their learning (can be self-paced).
3. Provides flexibility.
4. Can save instructor hours.
5. Can train many students at once.
Reduces geographic and time constraints.
6. Fast delivery of information/training

Limiting factors
1. insufficient bandwidth
2. Student preference with face-to-face teacher/student interaction
3. Student ability to make time or find unscheduled time for training /learning
4. Fast-changing technology and potential for technology issues.
5. Digital Divides

Almost every course that I manage uses CBT/online learning methods. It allows us to differentiate instruction by giving students the resources to interact with the training material. Our online learning includes computer-based testing, digital flashcards, practice quizzes, lecture slides, videos, and games.

This method provides and allows for training in geographically separated environment/classrooms.

Pros:
1. Training can be given and received from anywhere a computer, telephone, and/or the internet are accessible.
2. Reduces instructor hours: 1 instructor can teach several classes.
3. Virtual classrooms: costs savings (travel costs) and convenience.
4. Quick delivery of training/information.

Limiting Factors:
1. Cost of technology to implement and sustain.
2. Digital divides.
3. Student preference to in-person training/learning and interaction.
4. Not good for non-self-directed students or students that lack time management.
5. Changing technology and potential for technology issues.

Most of the courses that I oversee went to Distance Learning methods during the height of the COVID pandemic. This was to decrease human interaction, to stop the spread of the virus but continue training delivery.

One ethical dilemma associated with distance learning is the inability to educate students that lack access to technology resources (i.e., internet or computer). Every student should have the same opportunities to learn and some school districts have found ways to ensure this by setting up mobile learning centers and/or by loaning out laptops.

The three resources that contributed to my personal connection to this assignment are the three courses that I currently oversee. One of my courses is currently using Blended learning methods and all three courses have used Distance learning methods at some point over the last year. This is due to the pandemic. All three have previously used and still use today some form of CBT/online learning methods. These technology-based training methods are currently being implemented through the use of computer applications/programs, video conferencing apps, tablets that project what an instructor writes in real-time, and an LMS to manage everything.

The recent pandemic has highlighted the need for changes in the way we deliver education to students and in the way students receive and learn information. Education should not have to stop when teachers and students are not able to meet or interact in a traditional classroom. Technology based training methods allow educators to continue teaching and provide information delivery to students through distance learning, CBT/online learning, and Blended learning methods. Some of the benefits of these training methods are instructor hour and cost savings, increased student interaction with course material, training/learning flexibility and the ability to train and educate from just about anywhere all while ensuring that social distancing requirements/guidelines are being meet. The downsides of these training methods are access to technology, ever changing technology, cost of technology, and relies on student self-motivation to name a few. Despite these downfalls, technology-based training methods still allow educators to meet the intent of continuing education no matter the circumstances; The only other outcome is a discontinuation in education delivery all together.

These tools and methods would be implemented through the creation and updating of Plans of Instruction (POI)/lesson plans and by submitting requirements to the office that oversees training planning and development. These requirements would be for resources that need to be bought by the schoolhouse. Resources such as computer programs, applications, and tools and tablets and student laptops. Video cameras would be used to record instruction, chat rooms for student/student and student/teacher interaction. Instructor tablets that project to a computer screen in real-time would be used to teach math type lessons. Computer-based testing for student testing. Adobe based programs to create lesson slides and embed videos (training development) and laptops that can be loaned to students to enable distance learning
