Although the moral sphere doesn't suit me best, it may just be accurate for someone else. Personally, the inner rings colored in white extend much farther out than it should be. Family should be a priority to hold dear to but extending it up your family tree with members you've never met before? I would personally shrink that circle up to my grandparents because I got to interact with them and vice versa. With this in mind, I would definitely extend the outer ring of ingroup members and even strangers/outer group members. This is due to the fact that as people visiting public places and exploring, we end up meeting new people along the way. In return, we get to know them and care about them. Let's say the single individual in the diverted track was one of my parents. They have important value to me compared to 5 random mine workers who I didn't get the chance to know. In this scenario I would definitely not pull the lever but it all depends on what and who is valued more to the individual. However, it does the raise the question, what if all 5 members and the lonely individual were people close to you? What would you do then? Would sacrificing one life to save five better? It all depends on the value you hold towards both groups. Ultimately, without the factor of people being close to you, I would pull the lever to save more lives, however; I would never push a man off a bridge because of the guilt it brings. I literally stayed for a whole 10 minute debating on the first scenario. For the most part, I wanted to save the most amount of lives, the youngest, and being of the similar species. Although these were my decisions they weren't the easiest to make because of the multiple differences in each situation.
