When pausing...

  1. Don’t make the pause too long or the audience may think your speech is over
  2. Do, make it deliberate and noticeable
  3. Don’t pause to often or the lister may get confused and not follow what you are saying

  3. Do remember to slow down more than normal and enunciate your words because chances are you will be nervous and that will lead to fast talking

Understanding how you present yourself to an audience and how they view you based on just appearance is very important. Making a good first impression sets up your entire time in front of an audience and can largely determine the audiences reaction to what you are saying. Speaking well and being prepared is only half the challenge though because nonverbal communication plays a huge role in presenting a speech or having a simple conversation with a person. First impressions are very lasting and it is important that you make a good one. By following the rights and wrongs of the way to dress, speak and communicate nonverbally with your listeners you are to ensure a good outcome. Having good posture and being dressed a step above your audience is going to motivate your audience to listen carefully to what you are saying. By doing your homework on the subject you will be discussing and making sure your audience will not get lost or confused,  is going to act extremely in your benefit. A key component of speaking skillfully is also controlling your rate, volume, and how you use pauses. The way in which you project your voice will be noticeable to your audience and could potentially make the difference if whether or not people listen to you.
