In Geneva Victor had his relatives and friends but in Ingolstadt he knew no one. His emotions caused him a hard time in making new friends. As mentioned before these two locations are not very close. The distance is about 410 miles, even with a car it would still take a while to get there. So imagine how long the trip would take to get there in 1798. This also means that he would not be able to visit his hometown easily. So, in any case that Victor felt homesick there would not be much that could be done.

Victor has had a traumatic experience involving his family in Geneva. His mother's death and the health of his wife have caused a heavy dent in his spirit. In the beginning, it talks about Victor’s childhood and how he spent most of his time with his parents. Elizabeth made an impact on Victor’s life because not just being the only child, he made sure that she was part of his own. She made him feel a special type of emotion, he was happy and he didn’t have any worries or problems in the world at the moment.

Victor decided to travel to Ingolstadt to pursue his scientific education after his mother died. I would imagine it was incredibly difficult for him to leave Elizabeth, his father, and his friend Henry. He found it tough to leave his family, especially since a loved one had passed away. Victor is still saddened about leaving his family behind when he arrives at university, but he is fascinated to begin his studies and gain knowledge about life and death. According to Google Maps, the distance between Geneva and Ingolstadt is around 409 miles. Given the distance and the fact that this occurred in 1798, transportation must have been extremely difficult. Overall, Victor was bombarded with problems and struggles after his mother died.

Geneva was the opposite of Victor's feelings of Ingolstadt. It was his hometown and spent much of his development years which made him become who he came to be in Geneva. He would live here with his family and eventually find Elizabeth. She would play a role in shaping a man, of thoughts. Which would cause him to read a book called Cornelius Agrippa, which would eventually cause him to pursue a life of science. The last straw that pushed him from Geneva, was the death of his mom and the illness of his wife.
