Culture, roughly defined, is sum total of what you are surrounded with, as a member of a society; and knowledge is part of that culture. However, in a technologically globalized world, knowledge does not remain localized and is accessible to majority of the people around the world. Hence, your own culture alone is not the only source of knowledge. Knowledge comes through various means: informal settings (socialization/enculturation) formal settings (schools/colleges etc), individual experiences, books, and the internet. A culture may have a limited geographical boundary, but knowledge moves across borders.

However, if an alien looks at our planet, he or she (or it?) may lump all cultures as one culture with different variants and may find sharing of knowledge as an important part of a global culture. To the Alien, culture would constitute a broader category applicable to the whole planet and knowledge (sharing) would be a part of it.
