Manny Epps

PD:1

12/2/20

Children in the Holocaust

During my research I found out many sad and tragic things that happened to children during the holocaust. The number of kids and people that were murdered and tortured for no reason just makes me sad. The fact that little babies were not fed, and they were killed just hurts me and I could only imagine what it was like to have a child or baby sibling during this time.

In this research paper you can find what it was like to live during the holocaust as a child, how many innocent children died and how some children managed to survive and get away to freedom. My research paper will be split into 3 different sections as I listed above. Each section will also have 2 subsections about that topic. My research paper will be a total of 9 paragraphs.

While I was writing this paper, it made me feel terrible when I saw the number of children that got murdered. This is very sad because nobody should every have to go through this and even see anything like the Jewish people saw. Looking and all these statistics and facts about the holocaust makes me feel so grateful and blessed for the life I have; I can do whatever I want, and I get spend time with my family, so I am very grateful.

Children in the holocaust were barely fed and they were all starving. The Germans believed that since they were just young little kids, they could not be helpful, so they got treated worse than the adults. If the children were 2 years old or younger, they did not get any food at all and they were left to starve to death. Children from the ages 3 to 11 got fed a decent amount but not a lot nobody at all got fed a lot. Since these kids were left starving, they had no other option but to try and smuggle food. Children would more than often risk their lives to try to get food for themselves and their family.

During the holocaust Jewish kids would be forced to go up in front of each class at the Germans schools and the teachers would point out their distinctive features with a stick and make the children feel terrible about themselves. They would do this to teach their students how to spot a Jewish person so they can tell what they look like and potentially call someone to capture the Jew for escaping or trying to run away. Eventually this stopped and Jewish children were not allowed to attend the German schools. The fact that the Germans were teaching the children to be racist towards the Jewish was terrible because people would grow up to hate and kill Jews.

The Germans murdered approximately 1.5 million children with shooting squads. They murdered around 2.5 million children at the death camps. The other 2.5 million children died to starvation, torture, overworking, and diseases. These numbers show that the Germans had no mercy for children, they simply did not care, and they had no hearts. I do not understand how a person could be so brainwashed and heartless to murder anyone in general but, especially little kids that had no idea what was going on and could not do anything to defend themselves.

Children during the Holocaust were murdered in many ways. Some children were murdered straight away because they would be sent to the gas chamber as soon as they got to a camp. Many children were also killed by guns and other weapons. Millions of children also died due to starvation because the Germans did not feed the kids. The other 1.5 million children were murdered by torture, they would get hanged by a rope or beat. Finally, the kids would also be murdered by being forced to work too much.

Not every child during the holocaust died thousands escaped but how did they manage to escape? Many children would run off and hide. Many of the kids would hide in toilets or small places where they would not be found. This was very risky because if these children were found they would be murdered right on the spot. It might sound not smart of

them, but this was the only chance that these children had to survive. Eventually they were going to be killed somehow someway so they did their best to try to hide and escape.

Running off and hiding was not the only way children managed to survive. They also had help from their parents to keep them hidden and in disguises. If children were lucky enough to reunite with any of their parents, they would help hide them so that the Germans would not murder them. This was also very dangerous because both the kid and parent would be murdered for trying to get away with something that the Germans did not want them to do. They also murdered them because it would teach a lesson to the other people not to do it and to just follow the rules.

In conclusion the holocaust in general was terrible but it was even worse for children because they were so little and did not know much. It is terrible to think that they would just murder children just like that with no problems at all. In this research paper I talked about what it was like to live during the holocaust as a child. I also talked about how many children were murdered and killed. Finally, I talked about how the many few children survived. This was a great research paper for me because I learned so much. The main thing I learned was to always be grateful for the life we have and never take it for granted because we are truly blessed.
