The African-American Civil Rights movement was a movement that took place from 1954-1968. The movement occurred primarily to peacefully fight the discrimination and segregation that African-Americans were facing at the time. The types of discrimination included separate facilities for people of color, such as schools and businesses. Black people also faced incredible discrimination just by being parts of society. Literacy tests were made to try and disqualify them from voting, and they were even forced to sit in separate sections of the bus.

This Supreme Court ruling was, in my opinion, the most important of the Civil Rights movement. It ruled that separate educational facilities were inherently unequal. This ruling, which occurred at the beginning of the movement in 1954, gave the entire movement momentum. This momentum gave them the drive to fight for ultimately integrated facilities towards the end of the movement.

The African-American Civil Rights movement was an overall success. Across the country, courts ruled in the favor of African-American desegregation. Additionally, the congress introduced several laws to integrate public schools and to desegregate our daily life. The movement was additionally strengthened by the fact that the movement was peaceful, therefore the idea of peaceful resistance will remain in the minds of future generations.
