A hurricane is a tropical storm that is produced by an area of low pressure, heavy rain, and strong winds. The wind speed has to be at least 74 miles per hour in order to be considered a hurricane. The three main parts of a hurricane are the eye, the eyewall, and the rain bands. Hurricanes are classified by category (1-5) depending on their wind speeds. Hurricanes are extremely dangerous causing flooding, storm surges, wind damage, flying debris, and much more.

Hurricanes are storms with lots of rain and very fast winds. They are created in the ocean and move their way onto land where they slow down. Depending on how dangerous they are, they can be categories 1-5. Hurricanes can cause lots of damage to land and people, so the weather service tries hard to warn us ahead of time when they are coming.
