This is because, in the poem, Twin already had noted something wrong with Xiomara, saying that she looks different from usual. Twin has to always know what goes on in Xiomara’s life, maybe they don’t spend so much time together but they do have a close relationship because they are forced to as twin siblings. Xiomara hasn’t told Twin about how she feels about this new boy, Aman, in her class. This could have a negative impact on the story because it can destroy the trust they have in each other. If Twin does find out about her feelings towards Aman, he could rat her out on it to their mother. Seeing as how he’s the favorite to their mom, she would have the instinct to believe him and probably punish Xiomara.
