a) How can we sustainably feed future populations using this biome?

We can keep a sustainable biome by using the naturally occurred grasslands and maintaining it by not overgrazing animals, overusing irrigation water, causing saline soils, changing from native vegetation to cropping and, over cropping soils. The biome is capable of producing crops that are a necessary food source for ruminant animals which provide meat, milk or milk products. Meat from cow, sheep and goat that where obtained from the grassland biome made up to 29% of the global meat supply in 2010.

The grassland biome is used to supply he world with food sources. In this biome statistics show that the demand for milk and dairy products will increase by 22% in the next 10 years, means that funding for food production in this biome will not end.

A major problem with this biome is that it may not be adaptable to climate change, the likelihood that this biome will not be affected is unknown.

The food production in this biome can be changed to be more sustainable, this is attainable by:

-Less grazing

-An increase of fertilization: Will dramatically help ensure the preservation of the soil

b) In what ways has food production changed this biome? Include examples and/or case studies

The amount of food that is being produced in grasslands around the world are causing changes to the biome. Most Australian livestock is produced on grass. Farming for food is the biggest cause of change in a grassland biome. Farming and farming practises are a big part that make changes to the grassland biome for the better or worse. The place that is most affected by bad choices are African grasslands. This is mostly due to there being a lack of education and a lack of resources in African grassland areas.

The problems that farming in grasslands cause are the use of water, overgrazing, and bad farming practises such as row farming and over ploughing. Most native grasslands have been removed and cleared for crops. Introduced grasses have been added to the land and are used to feed grazing animals that live on the land. Overgrazing grasslands are the main cause in this biome becoming a desert. The soil can be used to host a wide selection of vegetables and crops, the land is perfect for livestock. Livestock constantly is at risk of overgrazing the grasslands. Animals are forced off their land. The planting of new crops in grasslands unbalance the nutrients in the soil.

d)	What is the biome and what are its characteristics and distribution across the world’s space? Grassland biomes are large, rolling terrains of grasses, flowers and herbs. Grasslands are among the most species rich plant communities in Australia. The characteristic of grasslands includes scattered tree or sometimes they may even be lacking trees. Temperate grasslands have two types, steppes and prairies. Steppes have shorter grass and, prairies have longer grass due to higher precipitous. Grass may not only have limited but also unpredictable rainfall, or maybe even droughts as they are also common. Grasslands are situated between forest and deserts; in-fact grasslands surround every desert in Asia. Twenty-five percent of the world population is covered by grasslands; they are dominant in regions with limited rainfall. Grassland have two seasons wet and dry season, temperatures can exceed to 38 degrees celsius in dry season, and drop below negative 50 degrees celsius in wet seasons.

Marwa : I personally believe that, we did a good job together although with all honesty Melis did a lot of the work, as we paired last minute. I found the task extremely easy although it did take a fair bit of time. The information was found and understood easily. Finding accurate information was the hardest bit as many sites said different things compared to one another. If I was to change something, it would have been pairing up with Melis early so that we could’ve done an equal amount of work. I believe if the assessment was on word it would have of been easy and quick, but at the end of the day I’m up for a challenge.

Melis : my reflection is that as Marwa stated we didn’t pair earlier and that left me doing a lot of the information alone, and my point is that the Information I found was summarised with my maximum effort and, I really did try my best to make it as formal and neatly presented as possible. My strength came with me summarising and finding the information with no sentence of copy and paste. My weakness, it was just taking forever. If I was to change anything it would be what Marwa said, pairing up earlier to share the work equally. To make a change I would have started from earlier as it did fall on me overnight and past my bedtime. Overall, I would change the fact that the
