1.Pay equality

-Should not pay based on gender and sexuality.

-Fame,popularity and prestige.

- Kruminis,2018

“Male movie stars would have to take pay cuts if they were serious about equal pay for women”,Salma Hayek (cast of The Hummingbird Project)

-Either increase pay for woman or decrease pay for men

-Eg: 5 cast of the Big Bang Theory took $100,000-per-episode pay cut to show support for their co-stars actress, Mayim Bialik and Melissa Rauch(Goldberg,2017)

-Not only for friendship, for respect.

2.Films production company changes people’s perspective through their work pieces

-Cinema is always a powerful medium for culture, education, leisure and propaganda. (Shah, 2011)

-changing portrayal of woman’s character in movies

-shape woman as leading and strong characters

Eg: Wonder Woman

-A story about Diana who used to be a princess of Amazons and was trained to be an unconquerable warrior. She left home to stop massive conflicts that is raging in the outside world.(Samadi,2017)

-Portrayed that woman has power to make changes

-Need to improve the opportunities for other talented woman within the industry and create role models-as characters on screen and in real life behind the lens to inspire the next generations(Al Mansour,2016)

3.Employ cast not based on gender

-hire cast based on fame, working experience, extreme of professionality

-based on how productive can a cast contribute to the final work

-not judge based on gender

-In 2013, only 29.2% of all speaking characters on screen were female.(Smith,2014)

-Add more female characters on screen(female leads, co leads or supporting characters)

-More female characters on screen means more variation of characterization

-When you have a film with more than one female character, then the defining character trait of each respective female character doesn’t have to be that she is female.(Mendelson,2014)

-Not every woman has to be defined as strong, independent

Eg: Thor:The Dark World-featuring 4 female characters who are strong, smart, vulnerable and real that all have their own personalities and motivations at play(Bailey,2013)

1.Pay equality

-A huge stepping stones for companies in the industry

-Assumed that men always remained more valuable in the film industry

-Kruminis,2018

“Pay equity is not only a question of dollars and cents--it’s also a question of value”,Ashley Louise,co-founder of Ladies Get Paid(career development organization)

-Pay is subjective in film industry (pay often differs between films and actress)

-Minority of women are stepping out to negotiate about salaries paid

-68% of woman accepted the salary they were offered and did not negotiate, 52% point difference when compared to man(Sankar,2017)

-negotiation is the key to close pay gap

2.Films production company changes people’s perspective through their work pieces

-Films have huge influence on the society over the year.

-Provide better understanding to the society

-Used to portray woman characters as weak. Their job is to stay at home-take care family, household chores

-Not giving society a vision of female protagonist.

-O’Regan(2016)

Eg: Disney

-In the past, princess must be saved by the prince(Sleeping Beauty, Snow White and Cinderella)

-Now, Disney adapted to changes in society by creating leading female characters in their movies.

-Merida(Brave), Anna(Frozen)

-Agence France-Presse(2018)

Eg: Evangeline Lilly(actress of Ant-Man and The Wasp)

-At first, Marvel was going to introduce The Wasp’s origin story in Marvel’s 2016 release Captain America: Civil War

-But then Marvel decided to dedicate a film introducing this female superhero and they don’t want her just to be a side note.

-The issue must be overcome through the same media from where it started.

-By seeing how huge films companies(Disney and Marvel)react; it will totally help in changing people’s perspective through their fame and movies.

3.Employ cast not based on gender

-people in the industry are used to their own thinking

-The fact remains that the standard and overwhelming “normal” in cinema is explicitly male-centric period(Mendelson, 2014)

- “There is a film (that she is considering) now where I have to wait for all the males roles to be cast before I can become a part of the conversation”, Anna Kendrick (Jang,2015)

-Casting females based on who cast for males

-traditional mindset that applied throughout the years in the industry
