TECHO (Felipe Crosa, Lucas Villaronga, Juan Manuel Ruiz)

1-
TECHO, also known as Un Techo para mi País (UTPMP) is a nonprofit organization that mobilizes youth volunteers to fight extreme poverty in Latin America, by constructing transitional housing and implementing social inclusion programs. It was founded by a Jesuit priest, and working with more than 720,000 volunteers, it has constructed houses for over 102,400 families in 19 countries in Latin American and the Caribbean and 2 offices located in Miami, FL, USA and London, England that work as funds hubs.

History

Un Techo para Chile was founded in 1997 by Jesuit priest Felipe Berríos, along with a group of university students. In 2001 it began expanding to other countries under the name Un Techo para mi País. In 2012 the name was changed to TECHO.

2-
TECHO is most known for its large-scale construction projects, building transitional homes called mediaguas for people living in slums (campamentos) in Latin America. The homes are made of wood and built by volunteers who work alongside the beneficiary families. Transitional homes allow Latin America’s poorest populations to have a private, safe and decent shelter; these basic results have long-term impacts. In its second phase, TECHO coordinates social inclusion programs such as education, healthcare, economic development, micro-finance, and vocational training. These programs are organized around weekly community meetings led by residents of the area. The third phase involves helping residents develop their own sustainable communities, including construction of permanent housing.

Funding comes from grants, corporate support and individual donations.

3-

Why

104 million people live in slums in Latin America. Families lack a proper home, and have no access to basic services, such as clean water, electricity or sewerage. They are exposed to cold, rain, dirt and pollution which generates many health problems. Adults are often unemployed and their children have to work from an early age to help support their family.

TECHO pursues three strategic objectives:

The promotion of community development in slums, through a process of community strengthening that promotes representative and validated leadership, and drives the organization and participation of thousands of families living in slums to generate solutions to their own problems.

Fostering social awareness and action, with special emphasis on generating critical and determined volunteers working with the families living in slums while involving different social entities.

Political advocacy that promotes necessary structural changes to ensure that poverty does not continue reproducing, and that it begins to decrease rapidly.

Founded in 1929, The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in midtown Manhattan was the first museum devoted to the modern era. Today MoMA’s rich and varied collection offers a panoramic overview of modern and contemporary art, from the innovative European painting and sculpture of the 1880s to today's film, design, and performance art. From an initial gift of eight prints and one drawing, the collection has grown to include over 150,000 paintings, sculptures, drawings, prints, photographs, architectural models and drawings, and design objects; approximately 22,000 films and four million film stills; and, in its Library and Archives, over 300,000 books, artist books, and periodicals, and extensive individual files on more than 70,000 artists. Collection highlights include Claude Monet’s Water Lilies, Vincent van Gogh’s The Starry Night, and Pablo Picasso’s Les Demoiselles d'Avignon, along with more recent works by Andy Warhol, Elizabeth Murray, Cindy Sherman, and many others.

The Museum presents an active schedule of modern and contemporary art exhibitions, over 1,000 film screenings a year, and a wide range of educational programming, from artist talks to family workshops. Architect Yoshio Taniguchi's new MoMA building opened in 2004, nearly doubling the space for the Museum's exhibitions and programs, and enlarging the beloved Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Sculpture Garden. Today, the Museum welcomes approximately 3 million visitors every year and has more than 130,000 members.

The Museum is affiliated with MoMA PS1, one of the oldest and largest nonprofit contemporary art centers in the U.S. Located in Queens, NY, MoMA PS1 presents over 50 exhibitions each year, including artists’ retrospectives and site-specific installations, and a full schedule of music and performance programming.
(NEW MOMA VIDEO)

MoMA plays a major role in developing and collecting modernist art, and is often identified as one of the largest and most influential museums of modern art in the world. MoMA's collection offers an overview of modern and contemporary art, including works of architecture and design, drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, prints, illustrated books and artist's books, film, and electronic media.

Consequences of Firm Activities
Internal (Employee):
Employees work and recibe a salary given from the museum's revenue. This means that the money donated from visitors mostly go to the payout of employees.

External (Stakeholder):
Stakeholders depend primary from the visitor's revenue to maintain the museum. MoMA has, because of its reputation, privileges with the government to prevent them from losing interest (demand) and moreover to prevent stakeholders to lose the company.
