The object of the photograph is the people of South Africa's slums. The body language of the people displayed in the photograph indicates that they are fatigued. The majority of people in the photograph have their hands on their waists or sitting down signaling that they are tired or frustrated. The body language of these people gives this image a dull mood. The people displayed in the photograph are seem to be unaware that the picture is being taken. The object in the photograph represents the idea of how tiring life can be living in poverty, and how a life full of labor and difficulties is not an easy way to live. There is barely any movement and action in this photo except for these people simply standing around. The object of the photo is the poverty represented by these people. It shows stark contrast to how most of the white population of South Africa lives. There are houses in the distance that look like they are in much better condition. I relate to this photo on a personal level. As I am born in Moshi, poverty is very much so a problem in this town. It may not be so obvious but on the outskirts of Moshi (Himo and Usa) there is a major difference. I have been all around Moshi and seen events extremely similar to this photograph.

The LGBTQ+ community has been deeply stigmatized throughout the world. It has been difficult for many people to express their true identities because in some places it is not socially or culturally accepted. Social movements, organizing around the acceptance and rights of persons who might today identify as LGBTQ+, began as responses to centuries of persecution by church, state and medical authorities. If the world-wide community simply agreed with the idea of having different preferences of gender and sexual orientation, because everyone is different and are exposed in different environments, the LGBTQ+ community would not have to struggle to such an extent to receive equality or be socially accepted. The colors of the pride flag displayed in the photograph have different meanings. For example; red is life, orange is healing, yellow is new ideas, green is prosperity, blue is serenity and violet is spirit. We amplified these colors by saturating the picture to make the colors more eye-catching to the viewer. The joint hands represent that the community is stronger together. Another aspect of this picture which stands out is the contrast between the races, this is because no matter what race you are, there is always a stigma which is restricting the people of the community to openly come out. The vantage point taken in this photograph is the bird's eye view.

As I was finished with the Photo Rational activity in class, I still remained curios. So I went to do a bit of additional research. And what I found baffled me. At one side there are those countries that punish homosexuality with the death penalty - Iran, Mauritania, Saudi Arabia, Sudan and Yemen - as well as in parts of Nigeria and Somalia. At the other end, there are countries where gay couples have the same marriage rights as heterosexual couples. The fact that you can get a death penalty for being gay just doesn't sit well with me. As I went deeper in research I observed that the more "free" countries are on the western and more developed part of the world and the more extreme measures are taken in the central part of the world. Where is it illegal to be gay? - BBC News

LIL NAS X TWERKING ON THE DEVIL

For this task "What is Art?", I chose a very controversial moment in Hip/Hop history. Lil Nas X has been of the most influential and controversial artist of 2020-2021. He made his debut in 2019 with an EP called “7 EP”. He came out as bi on a Instagram live and that’s where the rise of Lil Nas X started. This big controversy took place in the music video "Montero". As many have watched the Montero music video not only for the catchy music. Montero starts off in the Garden of Eden which is a biblical paradise. This video moves on to other biblical factors like lust. As he approached the end of the music video, you can see him descending to what is seem to be portrayed as hell. He enters the gate of hell and approaches the "devil" and proceeds to give him a lap dance (Lil Nas X - MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name) (Official Video) - YouTube). This Art because this piece of composition that Lil Nas X has portrayed is a very personal message to all his fans and haters. Art is the expression of human creative skill and imagination. And I would personally say, no one in the music industry has taken type of approach ever .This was a major middle finger to whoever doubted Lil Nas’s ability to portray himself in the music industry.

Why?

→ My first impressions of the texts are that ; It is very straightforward and has no sort of filter for the reader. I feel like the author took a very stereotypical approach to this article which was very smart because it makes the reader more interested and intrigued to read on.

2) What is one of the main points the author is trying to make?

→ One of the main points the author is trying to make in this article is that the people who are not from Africa ( more specifically the western countries ) are still thinking of Africa in a very stereotypical way. For example when the writer talked about the type of food the people of Africa eat.

3) Who is Binyavanga Wainaina?

→ Binyavanga Wainaina was born on January 18th, 1971 and passed away on May 21st, 2019 aged 48. He was a Kenyan author, journalist and 2002 winner of the Caine Prize for African Writing.
Satire: Tanzania

So, out of all the places in the world you come to read about a jungle. Anyways, now that you are here, let me tell you something about my country. The people from my country are the most arrogant individuals you will ever meet. And we absolutely love our food, Never take a Tanzanian’s food, Trust me. Let me tell you about the best thing that has ever happened to the country, The government. The police here will fine you for the most stupid reason. Here in Tanzania, you will get fined if your wheels are the wrong company, or if you are of any other race. Depends on their mood. Enough of the bad, we need tourists, that's the only way we make money. One thing you should note before coming here is that the drivers here can be very complicated, I don't even know how they get their driver's licence. It's not even funny at this point. Black Magic is also a big part of our country, But it is very taboo to talk about. I had a very bad encounter with black magic when I was 12, my friend and I were out with my mom to go to the pharmacy. As soon as my mom goes to get the medication, a tall male figure, with a beanie on his head, is very muscular. He asked me to hold his hands, I was a very innocent child but I definitely was not stupid, so I politely told him to go away from here, he smiled and tried to pick up and take him away, as soon as he put his hand through the window, I could see my mom screaming at his to stop. As soon as he saw her he quickly ran away. Another piece of information that will be very handy to know is that whatever you do, DO NOT ARGUE WITH THE MOTORCYCLE DRIVERS, No matter how right you are they will make up their own rules to prove you wrong. If you have any work at the immigration office, make sure you have at least double the amount of what you would pay normally, maybe triple if you a Caucasian. The people of Tanzania, especially the locals, are hardwired to assume that Caucasian people are more wealthy. Finally, the Coronavirus. The Coronavirus is a very sensitive topic in Tanzania, while everyone in the world was panicking about it, the Late President of Tanzania performed a type of prayer and declared that Tanzania was a free Covid-19 country, it had gotten to the point where if you wore a mask in public you would be shamed. When other countries got to know what our Late President was up to, they advised the country to go into lockdown and take vaccines to protect everyone in the country, but of course like the arrogant people we are, we undermined the call. Anyways I believe I have given you enough information, the choice is on you.

Symbols, allegory and motifs used in Psycho

One of the most predominant motifs used in this movie was the use of stuffed birds. It is interesting to notice that Marion's last name is Crane, and lives in Phoenix. And when she is sat down eating the sandwich that was made by Norman, he commented on Marion's way of eating and tells her that she eats like a bird. Hitchcock uses bird-related language to emphasize this motif.

Hitchcock also used mirrors and reflections as symbols throughout the whole movie to emphasize the theme of duality. For example, after Marion stole the money, Hitchcock juxtaposes her with her reflection, especially in the car. This shows Marion's refusal to consider who she really is and reflect on her wrong doing.

Another visual and effective motif that was used in the movie was the use of eyes, this motif was to underline the theme of surveillance and voyeurism. One of the examples of this motif in the movie is seen when Marion is running away from town with Mr. Lowery's money. As she is on the run, she locks eyes with her boss while she is about to cross the street- she is shook and known she is been spotted doing something wrong. The use of voyeurism took place when Norman is watching Marion undress through the peephole from the other room. Hitchcock gets extremely close up to Norman's eyeball, making the viewer watching feel included in his voyeuristic secret.

After school, Mamet worked odd jobs while he chased his dream of becoming an actor—but when few roles materialized, Mamet decided to write and stage his own plays while teaching and directing in Chicago, Vermont, and New York. In the mid-1970s, Mamet began achieving success as a playwright, and he won the 1984 Pulitzer Prize for Drama for his famed play Glengarry Glen Ross.

Published in 2017, the book explores various dark and surreal themes and is known for its unsettling and thought-provoking narratives.

While each story in "Mouthful of Birds" is distinct, they share a common thread of exploring the complexities of human relationships, the hidden desires and fears that shape individuals, and the blurred boundaries between reality and fantasy.

I personally have never read a collection of short stories as I am not the biggest fan of reading but I went into this book with an open mind, The short story that really stood out to me was Headlights which converses about woman called Felicity who was abandoned on a side of a highway when she meets another woman called Nene. It is revealed in this short story that this woman was abandoned for 40 years. She keeps telling Felicity to stop crying as her husband is not going to return. It is also revealed that there were hundreds of women who have experienced who have experienced the same thing. Around the end of the book it shows another car but instead of a woman, a man is abandoned. This caused a outrage and all the women rushed to attack the man, this gave Felicity and Nene steal and escape with the mans car, but while they were driving away, all the cars that had abandoned the women came to back for the man, not their wives.

"Lemonade" is more than just a collection of music videos; it is a visual representation of a concept album that takes listeners on a journey through various stages of a relationship, infidelity, and ultimately, healing and empowerment.

Some Stylistic Features of Poetry

Stylistic features of poetry
Three parts of poetry:
•Structure
•Diction
•Figures of speech
Simile: comparison between two ideas or words
Consonance: alliteration (at the beginning of the word) and
assonance (repetition of the vowel), the repetition of a consonance
(every letter that's not a vowel) Consonance is usually not the first
letter of a word.
•Types of alliteration:
→ Plosives: very powerful and impactful words,
B & P (bombastic, bombed). In your face, indicate sound
→ Sibilance: the use of s. Used to infer sound. Something
sneaking, whispering..
→ fricatives: softer letters, F & T. Very soft and gentle,
animal petting, sensual and calm meaning indicated.

Rhyme vs Rhyme scheme: Rhyme can be internal, there is rhyme
within the sentence. If the poem has a rhythm within the poem, it is
a rhyme scheme. Rhyming couplet: the line after each other has the
same rhyme scheme. Dissonance: the poet has played with the
expectations, it doesn’t follow the rhyme scheme.

Free Verse: There is no rhyme scheme, it is written freely.
Metaphor vs simile: metaphor is something that infers something
else

Anaphora: Beginning each sentence with the same word or the
same two words

Repetition: It suggests that we should focus on a particular word
and that that word has an important meaning.

Onomatopoeia: bang, clash, quack

Juxtaposition, Oxymoron, paradox: Opposite, opposite words,
opposite ideas

Stanza: Little paragraph of words, how the lines are positioned.
