Hello everyone, today we will talk about a report who deals with the similarties and diferences between the series ''The Handmaid's Tale'' and the real life. First we will talk about abortion, next LGBT+'s laws and the capitole.

As she said, we will talk about abortion, in real life,in some states abortion is illegal so women have to move in another state to have the right of abortion. The common point is that they disagree with that law, so there are a lot of manifestations. Women can't choose for their body anymore. In the series there are abortion center, they want to scare women by saying ''it's dangerous''. Moreover if women have a abortion, a criminal record is open about that.

In the series, some characters are homosexal. But a relationship with someone who has the same sexe as us is illegal; and they can be killed for that.
In real life, in the souft state like Texas, the LGBT+'s rights are restricted. Even if it's legal, some people don't accept the fact that some people are LGBT+.
But in others state, like New-York, they have laws to protect them and give access to discussion about sexuality and identity. The lawer Clarence Thomas, call to reconcider rights for LGBT+.

In the report, we can see that in real life, people stormed the capitole because of Donald Trump. After the election of Joe Biden, he got angry and pushed people to destroy the capitole, it took place in 2021.
The common point is that people are machine-gunned by men who have guns. So In the serie people are afraid to be killed.

In the first document, written by Elaine Velie, on may 25, 2022, it’s talk about the Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood. The Handmaid’s tale paints the picture of a pratriarcal totalitarian society in wich women are relegated to the roles of obedient wives or sex slaves.

Some books are banned when they are forbidden in some schools, library, … It’s the seven banned book in the USA, in 2022. The book is a symbol for pro-choice (a movement for abortion). After seeing her book being among the most banned book in the USA, M. Atwood decides to collaborate with the Gas Company to create a symbolic version of her book with aluminum pages, that burn only at 1220 degrees F. She did that to protect the book’s freedom of speech. She was supported by PEN AMERICA, a association that protects freedom of speech and fight censorship.

We can link the 2 documents, because Suzanne Nosel (CEO of PEN AMERICA), said that the number of banned books has grown in one year with 156 reports in 2020 and 330 reports in 2021. She said that the most banned books were about people of color, sex, LGBTQ and justice because it’s judged “not traditional” for them. It echos the Handmaid’s Tale because what happened in the book like inequality of sexe or censor of expression, it is going to happen in the real life.
