When Christian missionaires first came to Japan to Japanese people started to accept the faith of Christianity because they assosiated with european goods. The success of the missionaries upset Tokugawa Ieyasu. He found aspects of the Christian invasion troublesome. Missionaries, actively seeking converts, scorned traditional Japanese beliefs. Ieyasu did not do anything in the beginning, but later he banned Christianity and focused on ridding his country of all Christians. After he died, Christianity continued on and off for 2 decades.
