The Titanic is an example a real world beauty and love. Rose is a wealthy society woman and a first-class passenger on the Titanic. She is engaged to Cal Hockley, a wealthy and abusive man, but falls in love with Jack during the voyage. Rose ultimately decides to leave her old life behind and start a new one with Jack. Unfortunately the ships hits a big ol ice bergy. Stranded in the water because the ship sank, jack sacrifices himself to allow Rose to survive on the only flotation device around. This represents real love because even after only knowing each other for a short time, they loved each other very much and did what ever they could to keep the other one safe. They stuck it out together to the very end. Marcelo would say that it's sad that Rose had to move on without the person she truly loved.

Beauty and the Beast

Beauty and the Beast is a story about a young prince that was cast under a spell. His spell could only be broken with true love. Through many ups and downs, he found love with Beauty, and she, in time, returned his love. They marry and the prince's spell is broken, and they live happily ever after. It demonstrates love in the boldest way because by definition it's selfless. So when Beast releases Belle from the agreement so she can save her father, we know it's purely for her benefit. It is a truly selfless act that shows Beast has finally learned to feel love for another person. Marcelo would agree with this by saying that everyone has their ugly parts, and that if you truly love someone, it's easy to look past them and focus on what you find beautiful.

Cant help Falling in Love is a love song sung by Elvis Presley. The song upholds falling in love by telling about the true nature of love. It claims that love is something not to be rushed into but that with the right person love is inevitable. This shows real world beauty because the song describes being irresistibly drawn to someone, even if it defies logic or reason. Marcelo would agree to the songs answer to the thematic question because in his experience his love for Jasmine was uncontrollable.

Marcelo in the Real World is a young adult novel by Francisco X. Stork about a teenaged boy with Asperger's-like qualities who is pushed by his high-powered lawyer father to get some life experience working in the law office mailroom. In this passage Marcelo is being asked by Jonah, what his favorite part about her is. Marcelo responds by saying, "I like spending time with her, i like it when we talk about music or when I ask about things I have never though about... the part I like the most is her eyes." This shows how much Marcelo cares for Jasmine, and has feelings for her more than just friends would. This shows real world beauty because Marcelo can't explain why he feels the way he does or even what he's feeling to began with, but he does know that Jasmine is special to him, and cares about her.

Ophelia is a movie that is an example of real world love and beauty. Ophelia is a rebellious and motherless child taken into Elsinore Castle by Queen Gertrude. Ophelia captures the affections of the young Prince Hamlet and they kindle a passionate romance as the kingdom is on the brink of war. After Hamlet's father is murdered by his uncle Hamlet becomes mad. Hamlet kills Ophelia's father Polonius and Ophelia fakes her own death to try and escape the castle. This movie represents real world love because after all of that violence Ophelia is still in love with Hamlet and attempts to get him to escape with her. Marcelo would say that Hamlet let power and revenge take control over him. Marcelo does not believe revenge is the correct way to handle real world situations and that Hamlets revenge disrupted his love for Ophelia.

Hunger Games

Katniss Everdeen voluntarily takes her younger sister's place in the Hunger Games: a televised competition in which two teenagers from each of the twelve Districts of Panem are chosen at random to fight to the death. The Hunger games shows real world love and beauty because of the interaction between Katniss and Peter. They were both competing in the games from the same district, and helped and took care of each other throughout the game. Eventually they were the last two left, and since only one could win victorious, neither of them could let go of the other. So they decided that they would both die together so no one won. This shows that they loved each other very much, and that winning the game and continuing on with life wasn't nearly worth as much as living without the other. Marcelo would say that fighting for the ones you love is most important.

Based on the pieces that we have explored, the best way to approach love and beauty in the real world is to look within yourself to find what you truly value about someone. For example, after some consideration Marcelo realizes that he can be himself around Jasmine and that he feels a special connection to her. Beauty can be seen in many different ways, for example in the Beauty and the Beast Belle finds beauty and love in the beast who on the outside seems frightening and unlovable. Overall, real world beauty and love is based on how you feel towards the people you care for the most.
