The US does not want the bad parts of its history exposed because they want to look good on the world stage. Our imperialsitic endeavors would make other countries question the integrity of our ideological principles of democracy and independence. If the U.S. believed that its treatment of Filipinos was warranted, it would not have covered up its militaristic conflict with the Filipino people who called for true independence.

In this cartoon, Uncle Sam is shown carrying tools and industrial goods into the Philippines. The signs on the shore say things like “Wanted: machinery, engines, sugar mills,” suggesting that the U.S. sees the Philippines as a market and economic opportunity. The cartoon suggests that imperialism is less about freedom and more about expanding American industry and influence overseas. This cartoon represents dollar diplomacy because America, or Uncle Sam, is bringing these tools and the supplies for a railroad in hopes that they will do something in return for us.

This cartoon shows how the U.S practiced paternalism and claimed to protect the citizens of other nations while undermining their sovereignty. This cartoon also reveals how America justified their imperialism by claiming it was doing good and saving people, even though their real motives were economic and political. Lastly, this cartoon shows gender roles and the cult of domesticity as the person being saved by the male representation of America is a girl, and the people hunting her are male.

McKinley's imperialistic policies during and after the Spanish-American War highlights how he wanted to gain support through expanding America's cultural outreach. Because American people felt instability in their identity that was founded upon America's allure as a new and undiscovered nation, it led McKinley to implement measures that pushed for imperialism to bolster the American economy and quell white Americans' anxieties. In doing so, it could help strengthen his influence in other regions, giving him access to foreign markets to benefit the American economy.

The cartoon exposes the US ideology of Manifest Destiny, racial superiority, and paternalism/White Man's Burden—rooted in the belief that Americans had a moral obligation to “civilize” and govern others. By portraying Uncle Sam carrying colonial subjects toward “Education” and “Liberty,” imperialism is framed as a benevolent, uplifting mission rather than an act of conquest and control.

Additionally, the people being carried are depicted as helpless and incapable of self-rule, reinforcing stereotypes used to legitimize domination. This supposedly noble pursuit masked the reality of political subjugation, economic exploitation, and systemic oppression imposed on these nations.

This could have been used a propaganda at the time as the cartoon made the president look ugly and evil with the fist of the U.S. being clean and white, influencing the viewer on how to interpret this piece.

This cartoon depicts Uncle Sam representing the US holding a Filipino baby. It represents the paternalistic ideas that the US is in charge and needs to protect the Philippines from foreign countries. It categorizes the Philippines as a poor helpless baby that is kicking around. The shock that is represented on Uncle Sam's face is there to give emotion to the people by seeing that the person who represents them is having a hard time to tame the baby. This makes the people shift their viewpoint to try and help the US to take control of the small baby.
