The great plains is an area of treeless grasslands. The east part of the region has more water and better soil than the west part where there's rarely any plants besides short dense grass which is perfect for bison. Temperature averages vary from lower than 40 degrees in the northern part to over 70 degrees in the southern part.

Because of this, most of their homes were teepees made out of long poles and buffalo hides that usually had symbolic paintings or pictures on the outside.A door would be cut out of the hide and would always face the east.

The hair and sinew were used for bowstring and rope and the horns and hooves were used for spoons, bowls, and were even boiled down to make glue. Dry bison was also even used to make fires.
