Definition: the felonious taking of the property of another from his or her person or in his or her immediate presence, against his or her will, by violence or intimidation.

Example: Felicia and Roberta are struggling to pay their bills. One day, they devise a plan to rob an expensive five-star restaurant because they noticed it does not have any security cameras and there is always at least $200 in each cash register and thousands of dollars in the safe. They then find and purchase guns and ski masks and proceed to rob the restaurant. They are successful in receiving their money, but Felicia accidentally pressed the trigger on her gun and shot a witness in the arm. Oddly enough, Felicia and Roberta are able to escape without being caught.

(In other words, larceny is non-violent theft.)

Example: Jack was jealous of his friend Bobby's brand new smart phone. One day, Bobby refused to let Jack copy his math homework. In a fit of rage and jealousy, Jack quickly took Bobby's new phone from his backpack when Bobby got up to turn in his homework. Jack intended to keep it for himself, but when Bobby returned to his desk, he said he saw Jack take his phone and Jack was forced to return it.
